- Chapter 23 - Another 'Old Acquaintance' [1]
Feeling the sweet, metallic taste of blood in his mouth, Ink subconsciously closed his eyes as flashes of the man’s memory quickly passed through his mind. Unhappy childhood, prisoners of all kinds in prison, then the robbery and homicide the man did with several of his accomplices. All of it flashed through his mind.
When he came back to his senses, Qin Luo’s surprised face appeared right before his eyes.
He immediately wanted to say something, anything to Qin Luo. However, every single time he opened his mouth to speak, he felt as if his throat was choking, stopping him from forming any words. Only the sounds of coughs came out of his throat, as if something was blocking his airway.
He was seen. The side of him that he didn’t want Qin Luo to know the most was exposed to Qin Luo by his own self. The taste of the sweet, metallic blood left in his mouth became bitter and difficult to swallow.
Just now, he was still listening to Qin Luo’s laughter. But, now, at any moment, the sound might be replaced with Qin Luo screaming to get this demon to quickly disappear from his sight.
“Mo-Monster… Monster, AAAH…!” One of the guys holding a lethal weapon in his hands was so scared, he fell weakly onto the grass, crawling backward with his hands and feet to get away.
The other, who was also frightened out of his wits, trembled. Not only was his body trembling, but his teeth were also clattering non-stop, only wanting to retreat back to the trees behind him and run far, far away.
‘Yes. That’s what those people call me.’ Ink didn’t even have the courage to look at Qin Luo’s eyes again. Without saying anything, he disappeared from his position in the blink of an eye.
It happened so quickly that before Qin Luo even recovered from his surprise, Ink had already turned into a virtual shadow and disappeared right before his eyes.
“Ink…”
Qin Luo’s cry did not reverberate too far. After all, though it was a secluded area, it was still within the scope of the amusement park. Therefore, the sound simply could not overpower the noisy environment. However, despite that, Ink still heard Qin Luo calling for him.
Alas, for fear of it being an auditory hallucination on his part, he still did not dare to stay.
Meanwhile, Qin Ke’s eyes were wide open, not even blinking as he looked at the ever-changing situation in front of him. The bloody scene didn’t scare the little guy much, for in his opinion, it was just like that cinema movie his mommy took him to. So, in addition to being surprised over the sudden appearance of three ferocious villains, he only felt that his uncle’s and Uncle Ink’s moves were exceptionally awesome.
Qin Luo’s focus, on the other hand, was not on Qin Ke. There was a glimmer of coldness that flashed across his eyes. Those two villains had seen Ink’s and Qin Luo’s appearance clearly. And once, the news of what happened today leaked out, it would not only attract the attention of the police, but also fall under the research institute’s radar. Furthermore, it might also provoke the other secret forces out there.
So, no matter what, these two couldn’t stay.
Unaware of the end that was awaiting them, the two men were still in a state of stupefaction from witnessing Ink’s vanishing act; but they soon came back to their senses and a sense of horror overcame their rationale. At that point, all they wanted to do was to flee.
However, before they could do so, Qin Luo pounced on one of them and pressed his knee against the man’s lumbar spine. He pressed the guy strongly to the ground, then from behind, his hands reached out. He held the guy’s forehead with one hand and the jaw with the other, before decisively twisting the guy’s head to the side sharply. Thus, with the crisp sound of bones breaking, the man collapsed to the ground like a puppet whose strings were cut; his struggles coming to an end.
The other guy, who had escaped to seven, eight meters away, happened to turn his head around at this time. Hence, he coincidentally caught the sight of Qin Luo ‘covered in blood’, neatly killing his accomplice before pouncing on him with a fierce expression. Qin Luo looked ready to exterminate him from existence, frightening the guy out of his wits.
From the very start, he was the most timid of their group of three; and usually, he would only be able to frighten the old, the weak, women, and children. Still, that was enough for him to keep up appearances and maintain his front. However, that didn’t change the fact that he was the most cowardly of his group.
Two days ago, during a robbery, the leader of the group ordered him to use his knife and kill the owner of the house. Having no choice, he had to stab the man, but then he had nightmares for several days as a result.
At present, the police had chased them to the amusement park due to that case. Thus, cornered, they tried to catch two hostages to block the pursuit. Who would have thought that their luck was so bad that it was practically spilling cold water. Not only was there a monster that sucked human’s blood dry like a vampire, but there was also a white-faced young man who initially looked powerless yet turned out to be another murderous monster.
Now, he was the only one left alive. However, the more he tried to run, the more his legs trembled. Thus, rather than ‘running’, it was more like he was stumbling one step after another.
