The Woman in the Storybook (1)
The cool breeze rushed in, causing Zhuo Lian to regain her wits. She found herself standing in a simple courtyard, surrounded by fences. The broken house in front of her had apparently been there for a long time. The blue bricks above had lost their original color and were dusty with cracks. She was holding a rough white porcelain bowl that was filled with black medicinal soup, exuding a strong, pungent bitter smell.
Her mind was in chaos, her thoughts were entangled in a mess, and she couldn’t sort it out. She didn’t understand how she got there. A few moments ago, she was clearly pushed down from above the dry well by a few greedy clansmen and fell to death. However, there were no wounds on the body.
There was hoarse yelling and cursing in the room, full of breath albeit with a touch of fatigue. She inwardly surmised that the medicinal soup in her hand should be prepared for the person in the room. After hesitating for a while, she stepped into the door, and when she saw the young man tied to the wooden chair with a hemp rope, the memories which did not belong to her started flooding over like a tide.
Raising her hand to cover her painful forehead, her back was pressed against the cold door panel with a trace of astonishment on her beautiful plump face.
This body had the same name and surname as hers, and she was also called Zhuo Lian, but it wasn’t herself who grew up in Peking, but the member of the Zhuo Clan of the Great Zhou Dynasty. This year, she was only sixteen, and it had just been a year since she married into the Huan family. After she was transferred to the capital, she became a widow because her husband was killed in the paddock while guarding the nobles during hunting.
The first twenty-eight years of a woman’s life were the best time for her, just like a flower bud that just bloomed, delicate and beautiful. The Zhou family had little affection for Huan Zhou, but since marriage was already set during childhood, they decided to follow the boat.
At that time, without the restraint of her husband, she acted very unbridled and secretly met with a rich man in Bianzhou City. The rich man’s name was Yu Man. The Yu family was into the business of herbal medicine and very wealthy. He lusted after the young beauty of the Zhuo family. However, the original owner of the body was well aware of his intention and knew how to sell herself for a good price. Even after all these years, she still hadn’t given up trying to marry Yu Man as the mistress.
Huan Shen was Huan Jin’s brother and Zhuo Lian’s uncle. Both of the brothers worked as guards in Bianzhou. A nearby village and town had a seasonal epidemic. The officials ordered the guards to lock down the village and sent doctors to treat the disease promptly. Fortunately, Huan Shen did not contract the spread of the disease.
It’s a pity that the previous Zhou Lian cherished her life the most and was still uneasy. That day, she rushed to the medical store to buy herbal materials for the prevention of the epidemic. The medicinal soup was boiled on the stove but Huan Shen refused it with disgust.
Huan Zhuo’s eyes flushed immediately, taking advantage of this person’s exhaustion and sleep, she took the twine to tie him tightly, and there was no room for him to escape.
The porcelain bowl she was holding then wasn’t a medicinal soup that can prevent and cure, but an arsenic cream that could be lethal for the stomach. Yu Man, the young owner of the herbal store, threatened the employees in the store and exchanged the medicine package. Therefore, the original body didn’t know it, and poured the boiled arsenic cream into his uncle’s stomach, almost killing him.
Fortunately, Huan Shen had a long life. After drinking arsenic, he soon vomited and bled. The original body found that the situation was not right, so she hurried him to the doctor and treated him in time. This saved Huan Shen’s life.
Even after she made such a big mistake, the original body didn’t learn to be smarter and went her own way, still very stubborn.
When Huan Shen was out in the army fighting with the other town, she betrothed Huan Yun to a wealthy family in Bianzhou. Huan Yun was unwilling to marry, and she knelt on the ground for several days and begged, but it didn’t let Huan Zhuo change her mind. So she was forced into the bridal carriage and sent to the magnificent mansion.
The original owner thought that she was the most benevolent to the sister-in-law and could also make up for the mistakes she had made. How could she expect that in less than a month, there would be bad news that Huan Yun was missing?
The wealthy man was old and poisonous and liked the young and tender girl the most. After she married, Huan Yun was beaten day and night despite her title as his wife. Even the servants verbally abused her, making Huan Yun weak. In just one month, she disappeared.
Originally Huan Nu was very good to the previous Zhou Lian, but after her daughter’s death, she finally woke up and hated Huan Zhou to her bones. It didn’t take long for her to be too distressed and depressed. In a few years, Huan Shen, who had joined the army, became the famous Lord of Zhen and returned to Bianzhou, where he locked Huan Zhou in a dark prison and tortured her to death.
This extra memory in her mind shocked Zhuo Lian so much that her eyes became wide open.
She also went to school, studied, and knew that there was no such dynasty in history. Everything here belonged to the script that she had read before. There happened to be a wicked woman surnamed Zhuo who poisoned her uncle, gave her sister-in-law to an old and wicked rich man to play. Probably, because she had done too many bad things, in the end, she finally met with retribution and died.
Zhuo Lian lowered her head, her eyes fell on the hot soup bowl, and then she looked at the young man with a hideous face tied up not far away.
He was obviously the Huan Shen in the script.
Please! update this book. It’s really good. ♥️
