Chapter 7: How Would I Have Met You!
Half a month later, Li Changjun borrowed money from me on the grounds that his company was having trouble making ends meet, and I ‘raised a lot of money’, lending him 300,000 yuan. However, these renminbi serial numbers were provided by the police in conjunction with the bank.
So, four days after he disappeared with the money, Li Ming and the others successfully caught him in a five-star hotel on the outskirts of the city and smoothly prosecuted him—of course, with the help of the tape of him borrowing money from me as evidence and my testimony against him as a witness. He was sentenced to five years in prison and they were able to recover the stolen money.
In the courtroom, when he learned that the evidence for the prosecution was mainly provided by me, and that I was the main witness, he looked at me viciously. It was difficult to bear such a gaze. It was only when Li Ming and Dong Wei and the other burly police officers shielded me and looked at him with even fiercer eyes that he wilted, not daring to raise his head again.
The bad guy was finally caught. Although the director of the Chengdong Police Station did not award me the “Outstanding Citizen Award”, he asked Li Ming to find someone to make a banner for me with seven big words- ‘Police and public cooperation, heroic and active’.
However, together with the banner, there were two movie tickets for the next night’s screening of “New Police Story” at the local cinema. Li Ming explained that he heard I was interested in police life and work, so he invited me to go see this movie to learn a bit about it.
I happily took the banner and tossed it to my dumbfounded mother and He Yuesha. Then I took the movie tickets, put them carefully in my bag, looked up, and was greeted by Li Ming’s delighted eyes and Dong Wei’s wicked smile.
In order to keep my family from worrying, my mother and He Yuesha always thought that I was dating Li Changjun. When they suddenly learned that he was arrested, they were sad for me while blaming themselves. But they didn’t know that I was undercover with the police, so they were in shock after learning of the situation.
And at this moment, Yuesha was more amazed that I actually caught the Police Captain, and being such a man, cursed me for my dogshit luck! My mother also smiled happily, saying that I was stupid so I was blessed.
And so, a year later, I slowly transformed from a heroic citizen to the wife of the current captain of the Chengdong Police Station.
During this year, with the various study tours and in-depth exchanges (such as watching movies, visiting military museums, buying mechanical models, etc.), I gradually learned about Li Ming’s passions, his career, and his past- that he had joined the police force right after graduating from college, and that his face was injured during a confrontation with an arsonist, and that he never had a girlfriend before…
Haha! The actual fact is that when I asked Li Ming what exactly he was attracted to, he always just smiled gently, never answering. That night I saw the emotional and out of shape Li Ming, but it would be difficult to see it again.
On this day, when I was annoying him again, his face turned slightly red, and his eyes stared into the distance and said that he was attracted to me on our first meeting.
“The first time we met?” My face must have looked pretty bad at that time, and I hastened to ask him again. Because the first time we met, my God, I thought of him as a pervert, as a gay, as a demon! I never thought of him as a cop, as my prince, as my beloved.
He said, “I had never seen a girl like you, gentle, but lively, always smiling. You were such a lady in front of Li Changjun, but as soon as he left, your true nature was revealed, haha! And why did you have so many strange ideas, thinking I was a bad person…thinking I liked men….”
He held my face as he laughed and said, “But such a wonderful girl, full of justice, so brave and lovely… Every time we had a meeting with you, you were always so serious, pursing your lips, wanting to laugh but forced to hold back, and seriously take notes….”
“Oh! Don’t say that!” I groaned. I didn’t expect him, who had always been indifferent, to say such emotional things. I blushed, remembering how I attacked him, the police!
“But!” Li Ming looked at me firmly. “I really have to thank that kid Li Changjun, if he hadn’t asked you on a blind date, how would I have met you!”
I was moved again and kissed his scar gently.
Yes, I am also thankful for that blind date. Otherwise, how would I have met you, the true Li Ming, my true love!
