I Just Got a Call From My Boyfriend
💖
“Are you here for dinner?” Zhou Dou asked.
“I came with Uncle.” Bo Ziren hadn’t expected to see Zhou Dou here.
It was a rare encounter, so Zhou Dou had to say a few more words.
“I originally wanted to be at home during winter vacation, but my father insisted that I work here.”
“A part-time job?”
“That’s right. It’s similar to washing dishes and carrying dishes. If I don’t come, they make me. There’s nothing I can do. I can’t read at home, so this is my only choice.”
A she thought about his last name, Bo Ziren made an educated guess.
“Your father is the owner of this restaurant?”
Zhou Dou felt a little dumbfounded. He quickly nodded. “You’re smart.”
He’d never revealed to anyone at school that his family was in the catering business. Moreover, they were famous and had a large scale company, with four branches in the city. However, he felt that there was no need to hide it from her now.
“Then Zhou Xiaran is your big brother?”
Zhou Dou couldn’t believe his ears. “How do you know everything? Do you know him?”
Bo Ziren said, “Yes, he’s in our room.”
Suddenly, shrewd Zhou Dou knew immediately what was going on. An anxious look flashed across his face.
“Is he here on a blind date with you?”
Bo Ziren was startled.
“That must be it.” Zhou Dou smiled coldly, “Someone has helped him calculate his fate. If he doesn’t get married this year, he’ll have to wait another five years. My dad has been trying to find him a partner since the second half of last year, but my brother hasn’t taken a fancy to any of them.”
Bo Ziren wanted to say that this was impossible, but when she thought back to the details of the day so far, she felt that Zhou Dou might be correct.
Her silence worried Zhou Dou.
“Are you really interested in him? For the sake of your old classmate, I must advise you, although his conditions are good, he’s not suitable for you.”
Bo Ziren was now trying to think up an excuse to leave and didn’t really care about what Zhou Dou had to say.
Zhou Dou was anxious now. He pulled her to a corner of the corridor and said in a low voice, “I’ll tell you straight. He doesn’t have any sense of responsibility. His previous girlfriend was with him for three years. When she became pregnant with his child she didn’t manage to keep it. My mother strongly opposed the matter, but in the end he compromised and bought her a house as compensation, so she could continue living peacefully.”
Bo Ziren interrupted him, “Zhou Dou, you don’t have to tell me about your family matters.”
“You think I want to share such a shameful thing? I just didn’t want you to fall for it, so I had no choice but to tell you. He really isn’t suitable for you. Don’t listen to your uncle foolishly, and don’t be mesmerized by his superficial theatrics.”
“I won’t.”
Hearing her resolute tone, Zhou Dou let out a sigh of relief and moved back.
“I already have a boyfriend.”
He froze and stared at her with a strange expression on his face, as if he had heard something bizarre. After a long moment of silence, he finally asked, “Bo Ziren, what are you talking about?”
In that instant, Bo Ziren’s cell phone began to buzz. She looked down and upon seeing Uncle Mu’s number, she guessed he must be calling to ask about where she’d gone.
“I need to get back. Goodbye.” And with that, Bo Ziren walked around the frozen Zhou Dou and quickly hurried back to the room.
Upon returning, Uncle Mu asked her, not unkindly, why she had been gone for so long. He asked if she was not feeling well, but she said she was fine.
Zhou Xiaran who was facing her, was beginning to feel a little bored, but he made sure his outwardly demeanour remained as flawless as ever. Crossing his hands he said gently, “Isn’t it too stuffy here? Do you want to open the window for a while so we can breathe?”
Uncle Mu pounced on the opportunity and said, “Young Master Zhou, can you take Xiaoren out for a walk? I saw that there was a new fish pond on the first floor and thought it looked very beautiful.”
“Of course, it’s my honor.” Zhou Xiaran took a white tissue and wiped his slender fingers before inviting Bo Ziren along, “Are you willing to come with me?”
At this point, Bo Ziren was sure about what was going on. She knew that she should make a prompt decision, so she stood up.
Zhou Xiaran stood up as well. He had already come to a decision. Although it had been boring, since she had barely spoken a word, he was satisfied with her appearance, and being quiet was better than being a noisy woman.
He decided he wanted to try it out with her alone. If he felt in tune with her, he wouldn’t reject keeping in touch, and if he didn’t feel much towards her, he could just find a suitable excuse to push her away. From the way she looked, she shouldn’t be someone who wouldn’t be able to let him go.
Unexpectedly though, Bo Ziren said, “I’m full. I’m going back.”
Zhou Xiaran’s eyes darkened slightly and he looked at her in surprise.
“Xiaoren, what happened to you? What is so urgent? There is nothing wrong–”
“Uncle Mu.” This was the first time Bo Ziren had ever interrupted him. “I just got a call from my boyfriend. He wants to talk to me about something, so I have to leave now. I’ll come back home later.”
She then walked out of the room very efficiently. Uncle Mu stood up and immediately chased after her, pulling her back.
“Xiaoren, are you telling the truth? Do you really have a boyfriend? Why didn’t you tell us? If I knew, I wouldn’t have…”
He drifted off and sighed, feeling guilty. He had, after all, lied to her today, so he couldn’t blame her.
“Sorry, Uncle Mu, I should have told you earlier. I just didn’t know how to tell you.”
Uncle Mu forced a smile. “Forget it, but come back to the room with me at least, to give them an explanation.”
Bo Ziren shook her head. “I can’t be friends with him. There’s no need to say anything more. Otherwise, they’ll think that I’m just joking around and won’t take my words seriously.”
This was the first time Uncle Mu had seen her consider everything so thoroughly. He wasn’t sure what to say to convince her.
“To avoid misunderstanding, I won’t go in,” she repeated. “Uncle Mu, please explain on my behalf. I need to go now. The bus stop is close by, so you don’t have to worry.”
After Bo Ziren left, Uncle Mu returned to the room in a complicated mood and gulped down a mouthful of tea before explaining the situation.
“So that’s the case,” he ended with. “What a pity. It’s not everyday you find someone like Young Master Zhou.” Uncle Mu was embarrassed and wanted to compliment Zhou Xiaran.
He repeatedly continued to apologize.
Zhou Xiaran, who had been silent the entire time, suddenly smiled.
“I won’t care about small matters.”
After a pause, he said to the two elders, “I have a good impression of Miss Bo. I hope I can have a chance.”
Uncle Mu stared at him. He hadn’t expected him to say that.
“Farewell.” Zhou Xiaran stood up, bowed slightly and quickly walked out of the room.
