Standing Up (1)
Xia Zhijun handed her the rest of the ice cream like nothing had happened. “Are you awake now? Hurry up and start training right away.”
On the other side, Lu Jiaye, who was busy giving out the rest of the ice cream, watched closely as the scene unfolded. “Why should he be the first to send ice cream to my sister? The good guys let him do it.”
Su Han smiled and said, “That’s my sister, stop trying to make a move on her.”
“I’m the one who proposed to deliver ice cream!” Lu Jiaye snapped, turning back to him.
“It’s Ah Jun’s money.” Zhou Xiao chipped in.
They still felt a little annoyed by the small argument they had at the tea shop while they were getting the ice cream. “Let’s get my sister an ice cream, she’ll like it.” Lu Jiaye suggested after finishing his drink.
“Public opinion always targets the better-off ones. It’s better to buy it for the whole team of girls.” Xia Zhijun said from the side.
“It makes sense. She didn’t even have water before. Maybe she was envied by some sour girl. After all, my sister is so beautiful.”
After ordering the packaged ice cream, they picked up the boxes to take them to the field. Lu Jiaye, who was paying at the counter, still had one more complaint. “My dad recently blocked my pocket money, Ah Jun, you have some extra money, come on.”
Xia Zhijun threw him a look that read he wasn’t bothered to pay attention to him so he scanned the QR code to pay, and swiped almost two thousand yuan at once.
Back at the field, after serving the ice cream, Xia Zhijun and his friends left together.
Xiang Li and Zhang Xinyi approached Gu Siyi slowly with smiles on their faces. “Thanks to you, we all enjoyed the afternoon dessert from the male god group.”
Only then did Gu Siyi discover that it was not just her, everyone was eating ice cream.
This male god group… is high-profile.
The training continued in the afternoon and Gu Siyi felt that the atmosphere in the team was much more harmonious.
When it was time to take a break, everyone gathered around her and curiously asked, “What is your relationship with Xia Zhijun and the others?”
“They all call you sister, who are you cousins with?”
“You’re our brother’s group’s favorite ~ you must be so happy~”
Gu Siyi looked at everyone’s eager eyes and decided to explain it to them. “My father and Xia Zhijun’s parents have been friends for many years. Xia Zhijun’s mother asked Xia Zhijun to take care of me as a younger sister, so they call me sister.”
“Wow, so that’s why!”
“No wonder why you’re their group’s favorite!”
“I used to be in the same class as Xia Zhijun. He was super cold and didn’t talk to girls much.”
“Don’t say I didn’t remind you, whoever likes Xia Zhijun can now queue up to please their future sister-in-law~”
The girls all smiled shyly as soon as these words came out.
They didn’t even want to manage or compromise, they seemed content liking the best school idol in their hearts. Even if there was no chance of getting close, the little joy of secret love could grow quietly and be brewed into a poem in time.
After a full day of military training, everyone was exhausted. Gu Siyi didn’t even bother eating a proper dinner. When passing by the school shop, she bought a small sandwich and returned to the dormitory.
She sat cross-legged on her chair, watching a few comedy shows on her phone while eating her sandwich, with a few chuckles now and then.
She didn’t even notice the person who entered the room until a cup of fruit tea was suddenly placed on the table. Gu Siyi turned her head to find Lan Xiaoqiu standing by it. “I bought it for you.”
Gu Siyi was conveniently feeling thirsty at that exact moment, she felt glad that a cup of fruit tea was brought to her, but she couldn’t tell the reason why. Gu Siyi looked at Lan Xiaoqiu as if asking her for the reason.
“You bought me a cup of tea last time.” Lan Xiaoqiu explained.
“Oh.” With that Gu Siyi felt relieved, picking up the fruit tea gladly. After taking a sip out of it, she felt a little touched. “Don’t you have to ignore me?”
“I entered this school to study, not to make friends, nor to get involved in drama. These little mishaps are too much of a waste of time and affect studies.” Lan Xiaoqiu said calmly.
Gu Siyi felt that she did have the kind of temperament for studying constantly.
But was it really good?
She curled her lips and smiled. “My parents have high expectations of me and hope that I will study hard to be admitted to a prestigious school. But they also hope that I end up having a colorful youth. So I see what they meant now. I wish these moments stay as fond memories when I hopefully graduate and leave school.”
Another day after the military training ended, Gu Siyi went to the cafeteria for dinner with her friends. When passing by the flower bed, Xu Na showed up in front of her with a few people.
She just pretended not to see them, casually walking in another direction without stopping.
“Gu Siyi!” Xu Na ran after her.
When she finally turned around Xu Na smiled and put on a cold tone. “How about we talk alone?”
“You don’t want to take Si Yi away and bully her alone, do you?” Xiang Li asked.
Xu Na’s face sank, it turned from cloudy to clear again after a few seconds. She even laughed it off. “No, I would never do such a thing. What happened before was just a small misunderstanding. Gu Siyi, let’s be friends, okay?”
Gu Siyi couldn’t believe the hypocrite in front of her. Is she a chameleon? A few days ago she’s fierce and wicked, then suddenly, she turned nice?
Gu Siyi’s disgust was written all over her face, she knew what had to be said without hesitating. “No. I don’t want to be friends with you.”
“!!!” Xu Na’s face immediately turned pale. She was rarely ever rejected.
“Don’t think that Xia Zhijun would ever support you, you just-“
“Don’t say it.” Gu Siyi interrupted before the opposite party started with rude claims.
She laughed again with color returning to her face. “Sister, you must have misunderstood me, anyway, it doesn’t matter, we’ll see each other again.”
“I’m not your sister, stop trying to make me your relative.” After that, she looked the other way and continued her stroll. Her friends followed her shortly after.
Xiang Li couldn’t keep quiet after they left earshot. “Si Yi, you are really cool!”
Zhang Xinyi exaggerated. “I’m a good for nothing who can still cheer you on!”1The original literally translates to – I’m a salted fish who can still call out 666! Here, a salted fish is a euphemism for ‘good-for-nothing’, while 666, which looks like 3 thumbs up, is used by netizens for ‘Amazing! Wowza!’2
“Don’t cause trouble.” Gu Siyi laughed. “But why did she come to see me? Didn’t she have a grudge against me?”
“It must be because of Xia Zhijun!” Zhang Xinyi Suggested.
Gu Siyi was genuinely confused. “Ah? What does this have to do with Xia Zhijun?”
“Don’t you know, she has liked Xia Zhijun since junior high school, but she could never confess to him, kind of like a big-tailed wolf staring at its meat.”
She waited for a moment to see if Gu Siyi would respond, then continued. “I also heard that once she saw Xia Zhijun talking to another girl so she went head over heels to stop her from talking to him. Fortunately, Xia Zhijun didn’t interact with girls very much, otherwise, she would be busy.”
“She must have heard that you were the younger sister recognized by his family, so she wanted to win you over.”
When it was looked at and analyzed like that, the context of the matter suddenly became clear to Gu Siyi. But instead of feeling sorry for Xu Na, it made her dislike towards her grow. However, she had a more important question on her mind. “Does Xia Zhijun like her back?”
“That’s impossible. If he liked her back, they would be together all the time.” Zhang Xinyi replied. “He usually chooses to ignore her in the rare times she does approach him.”
Gu Siyi breathed a sigh of relief. So he didn’t like her.
