Not too far, on the rooftop of the male dormitory.
Xia Zhijun and his friends had come up for some air when they unexpectedly witnessed the bullying opposite.
Even the ever-cheery Lu Jiaye was perturbed. “So many people bullying a girl, isn’t it a bit excessive?”
“Neither can we jump from here nor get inside the girls’ dormitory, what should we do? Should we call the school security?” Su Han said.
“Who knows the phone number?” Zhou Xiao asked.
“Crap, that place is my natural enemy, how would I have their number!” said Lu Jiaye.
Just as they were speaking, Gu Siyi appeared.
The quiet and sweet girl next door1Literally a girl who’s like a neighbour’s sister had now transformed into an Ane-san2It’s not yakuza but female leaders in a small gang probably, similar to Yankee level aka rebellious student level who’s very capable in fighting and cursing. Holding a brick, facing five people, absolutely fearless, full of courage and determination. Although they couldn’t hear exactly what she was saying, her lips opened and closed, exuding an aggressive aura.
Su Han gave a thumbs up and said, “I remember my own Ane-san, she is beautiful and has a wild persona.”
Xia Zhijun couldn’t help but smile. It seemed that the girl not only knew how to fight in games but also played in real life.
Lu Jiaye covered his chest and said, “I’m mesmerised by Sis Siyi. She’s so sweet and spicy, she’s a treasure!”
“Then you need to first ask Ah Jun if your sister is single,” Zhou Xiao teased.
“My mom repeatedly reminded me not to let bad people at school get close to her.” Xia Zhijun said nonchalantly albeit with a domineering undertone that brooked no room for defiance. “Don’t have any ideas about her.”
“Jiaye, give up trying to outdo A-Jun before you die,” said Su Han with a gloating smile.3幸灾乐祸 xìng zāi lè huò lit. to take joy in calamity and delight in disaster (idiom); fig. to rejoice in other people’s misfortune; Schadenfreude.
Lu Jiaye huffed in exasperation. “None of your business. What’s it to you if we like each other?4情投意合 qíng tóu yì hé to have an affinity with each other (idiom); to find each other congenial Are you going to force us to break up?5The us here is 鸳鸯 yuān yang mandarin ducks; affectionate couple I’ll go say hi to my meimei.”
He was about to greet Gu Siyi from a distance when Xia Zhijun grabbed his collar and led him down the stairs.
Lu Jiaye was forced to step back, struggling like an octopus, with the two brothers beside watching the show, none lending a hand.

By the time Gu Siyi had accompanied Jiang Xiao to the infirmary and returned to the dormitory, it was dark.
The girl didn’t mention why she was attacked from the start so Gu Siyi thought that it would be better not to ask, not to mention that she was all beaten up already.
Jiang Xiao thanked her for the umpteenth time and asked anxiously, “You’ve offended Xu Na, what are you going to do now?”
Gu Siyi chuckled. “I’m not afraid.”
In the dormitory, Lan Xiaqiu sat studying geometry with a notebook and gel pen, while Xu Lin was chatting with people on QQ in front of the computer wearing a headset.
Gu Siyi brought two cups of milk tea and put them on their tables.
“It’s only the beginning of the school year and you’ve already pieced together so much material, you’re worthy of being a top student!” Gu Siyi stood beside Lan Xiaoqiu, looking at the densely filled worksheet and various graphs, and her scalp numbed.
Lan Xiaoqiu didn’t respond. As such, she stopped bothering her and turned to Xu Lin.
However, even the usually chatty Xu Lin looked like she was too busy to speak to.
Xu Lin didn’t go to the rooftop with her. Although Gu Siyi felt uncomfortable, she didn’t want to make a fuss about it. After all, the other was her roommate. Not everyone needs to meddle in the affairs of others6多管闲事 duō guǎn xián shì meddling in other people’s business; it’s enough to focus on oneself. She didn’t want to be the Virgin Mary7a sanctimonious person 圣母 Shèng mǔ Holy Mother; goddess; the Virgin Mary who engages in moralistic preaching.
It wasn’t bedtime yet, and Lan Xiaqiu was still scribbling away in her notebook. Gu Siyi felt ashamed to just be messing around so she pulled out her textbook and notebook and tried to get into the studying mode.
I want to study hard … study hard … study … learn.
Hiss…
Gu Siyi was suddenly shaken awake by the pen poking her face.
She rubbed her painful cheek and looked down at her book which was a ghostly mess of scribblings8鬼画符 guǐ huà fú undecipherable handwriting; scribblings.
She pulled out her phone to check the time and was surprised to see it wasn’t even nine o’clock yet.
Ah, so much for staying up only to end up dozing off.9Quite literally, “Clearly endured for so long, but ended up dozing off.”
Gu Siyi gave herself a pep talk to hold on a little longer, insisting on studying until nine o’clock before going to wash up and sleep.
Finally, at nine o’clock, although she had not learned anything, Gu Siyi, who pretended to have learned the meaning, could be considered to have passed this hurdle in her heart and went to prepare for bed. She noticed that both her roommates were still wide awake and active at their table.
“I’m going to sleep, let’s turn on the lamp,” she said switching off the lights.
Only then did the other two look back at her, and she smiled and said, “Good night.”
