The Twenty-Sixth Night (1)
Jiang Ran took a bite of the porridge Feng Jing cooked. It wasn’t particularly unpalatable, just a bit salty.
After waiting for her to eat her fill, Feng Jing went back home to change. They met downstairs as agreed.
Today, the neighborhood was particularly busy. The incident of the burglars had spread among the residents last night. Although both the thieves had been caught, the householders were still very worried about the security situation of the community and demanded the property management company give everyone an explanation for their negligence.
Because the number of households that had been burgled was relatively large, today the police came again and recorded statements from apartment to apartment. Jiang Ran also got her statement recorded before taking Er Huang to the vet.
Feng Jing still drove his white Porsche Cayenne today, washed and clean. The morning sunshine was just bright enough, and the car looked more eye-catching than it did that rainy night.
Many car owners in the community had seen this car in the garage, but they never knew who owned it. Curious for so long, today they finally glimpsed its owner.
But the owner was dressed like a pervert (thanks to the mask and the cap), so when talking about him, everyone tried to keep their voice down for fear of being heard by a strange perv.
Feng Jing was long accustomed to being stared at. The eyes from around the neighbourhood did not concern him at all*. After Jiang Ran fastened her seat belt, he calmly drove the car out.
[*MamaGoose: Those were gazes of admiration, these are looks of disgust. For someone with a high EQ, your ability to twist the meaning behind the gazes is quite admirable, dear dog-nosed ML]
“Which vet?”
Jiang Ran told him the name of the clinic. This was the one she had gone to when she rescued Er Huang. Er Huang went there every year to get pet vaccines, and the doctors there knew him better.
There weren’t many people there. The doctor helped Er Huang re-treat the wound, then carefully examined it over. While waiting, Feng Jing received a call from Mi Xie Er. Upon seeing the name on the screen, he frowned very slightly.
“I’ll go out and answer a phone call first.” Feng Jing told Jiang Ran, then went out with his mobile phone. “What’s the matter?”
-
-
-
- “Mister Feng, where are you? I heard that the building where you live was burgled last night!”
-
-
Mi Xie Er’s tone sounded very anxious.
-
-
-
- “Are you all right?!”
-
-
“I’m fine. The burglar was found when he was on the seventh floor.”
-
-
-
- “That’s good. It’s really unsafe there. You better move back to Flower Pavillion!”
-
-
“It doesn’t matter. After last night, no burglar should dare to come around for the time being.”
-
-
-
- “— No, the security in that community is too inadequate. You live there. If anything happens, how can I explain to Manager Qin?”
-
-
Mi Xie Er was exhausted both mentally and physically. He felt that if Feng Jing continued being so obsessed, he could only come clean and get Qin Fan to deal with it.
Feng Jing was silent for a while and finally made a concession. “I should be moving back soon after.”
He too felt that this community was very unsafe. Jiang Ran lived there alone, and he was not at all assured. He needed to find an opportunity to explain his identity to Jiang Ran. It would be best if she could move to live with him, but his current situation was not suitable for living with others.
[MamaGoose: WHAT MAKES YOU THINK- ]
Though the other replied so, Mi Xie Er did not let his guard down.
-
- “How long is ‘soon after’ going to be? Even if you live there one more day, I will still worry! You don’t know, but when I heard the news in the morning, I was almost scared to death!”
He was afraid to see the headlines tomorrow: Newly crowned film emperor Feng Jing killed by a burglar in his own house.
“Soon after is … soon. Okay, I am outside now, we can continue when I get back.”
Mi Xie Er listened to the beeping of the call that was suddenly hung up and fell into deep despair. ‘Continue when I get back’’, well then, I will go straight to Watertown Apartments and wait for Feng Jing!
[MamaGoose: Idk why, but I would love a BL spin-off of our lil’ rice ball, fufufu~]
After Er Huang was checked, Feng Jing directly drove Jiang Ran back. Passing by an interior design store on the way, Jiang Ran made an appointment with the shop to help her change the window. When they got back, it was already noon. Jiang Ran wasn’t in the mood to cook, and ordered takeaway instead.
“Mr. Feng, how about you stay here and eat together?”
“No, I made an appointment with someone else at noon,” said Feng Jing.
Jiang Ran nodded and said nothing.
After a few moments of consideration, Feng Jing said, “How about you invite your friend to stay with you for a few days? You will be more relieved then.”
The incident had indeed instilled fear in Jiang Ran, she was still a little afraid to be home alone. But her best friend in City A, Yan Huanhuan, worked far away from this area. If she moved here, it would be troublesome for her to get to work.
“It doesn’t matter, I have Er Huang.” As she spoke, she squatted and rubbed Er Huang. He barked and wagged his tail.
Feng Jing was pensive for a while before saying, “You leave me a phone number, WeChat is not very convenient. If there is anything, you can call me directly.” Then he added: “It is best to call before 12:00 a.m..”
As she took out her mobile phone from the bag, Jiang Ran thought that Mr. Feng’s schedule of work and rest was really healthy. “Okay.”
After saving each other’s phone numbers, Feng Jing finally returned home. As soon as he opened the door, he saw two pairs of men’s leather shoes at the door.
Feng Jing: “—”
An alarm quickly sounded in his heart. He had just decided to close the door and quietly run away when Qin Fan came out from the inside. “Great Film Emperor Feng, why are you leaving when you just came back?”
Feng Jing: “—”
Misery is inevitable. Come on, he can bear it!
He closed the door, took off his face mask and cap, and smiled at Qin Fan. “Why is the Great Manager Qin here, Mi XianEr?”
The last three characters of ‘Mi XianEr’ were almost squeezed out from his teeth.
Mi Xie Er was at once covered in cold sweat. He stuttered a reply. “To-today … today when I was on my way to you, Manager Qin asked me where you had moved to—”
“And then you told him?” Feng Jing glared at him with a sneer.
Mi Xie Er was about to cry. “I-I—”
“Originally he wanted to lie to me. Hehe, am I so easily fooled? All I had to do was scare him a little and he told me everything.” Qin Fan helpfully added.
[MamaGoose: RIP rice ball. You shall be fondly remembered.]
