Shen Wanying’s Worries
Chapter Courtesy: Wang Mei
Shen Wanying was now regretting it very much.
She had indeed indulged in reading American literature, but the pressure on high school studies had kept her from reading for a long time. If it weren’t for Huo Cheng and Ji Yao’s CP hype during the past two days, she wouldn’t have suddenly recalled this book that was buried at the bottom of a box.
Normally, she would read such books secretly in her room. However, she hadn’t managed to finish reading the book last night. She couldn’t help thinking about the developments unfolding in the plot and had ended up bringing the book to school so she could read what happened.
She had carefully thought things through. She couldn’t read in the classroom, there were many people there, after all. The dormitory wasn’t convenient either in case someone asked her what book she was reading and tried to look at it over her shoulder. Wouldn’t that reveal the content? Instead, it was safer to read outside. No one would disturb her as she typically sat alone, they would only look at her from a distance.
It had never crossed her mind that Huo Cheng would come, let alone that a football would fly over.
She and Huo Cheng simultaneously looked down at the novel on the ground. The exquisite illustration on the cover looked almost sacred and shone dazzlingly bright under the sunlight.
Shen Wanying wished the ground would just swallow her up at this moment.
Huo Cheng was the first to come back to his senses. He saw the boys who were playing football on the field running towards them. He quickly picked up the book from the ground and put the cover back on.
“My Lady, are you all right?” led by Fang Yichang, the boy asked Shen Wanying breathlessly.
Shen Wanying, still confused, looked at them wordlessly.
Huo Cheng too glanced at them. “She is all right. But you, with that skill of yours, you should stop playing football.”
“——” Hong Hong was irked yet again. “What do you mean?”
Fang Yichang pulled him back and asked Shen Wanying, “Are you okay?”
Finally, she managed to come back to herself. She smiled at the people gathered around her. “I’m ok, just a little surprised. In the future, you should pay more attention when you play. Don’t hit the students who are passing by.”
“Of course, this is not how we usually are. I’m sure it won’t happen again in the future.” Fang Yichang rubbed the back of his head as he assured her.
“Class is starting soon. Let’s go,” Huo Cheng said to her before walking towards the school building.
Shen Wanying flashed a smile at the other boys then went to catch up with Huo Cheng. She stared at the book in his hand, wordlessly walking behind him.
Huo Cheng suddenly stopped. He turned around and handed the book to her. “Your book.”
“——” Shen Wanying was silent for a moment before taking it from his hand and running away as fast as she could. “Thank you!”
She felt like she could die from embarrassment.
How would she face him again in the future?
Should she change schools?
Shen Wanying quietly fell into despair.
After this incident, she deliberately started avoiding Huo Cheng. She wouldn’t even look him in the eye.
On his side, Huo Cheng knew that she was purposefully hiding away, so he played along with her and didn’t take the initiative to find her.

Within a single afternoon, Zhao Yimeng had noticed the strangeness.
“Did you quarrel with Huo Cheng?” she whispered to Shen Wanying after the class had ended.
Shen Wanying, who was packing her school bag, felt her heart skip a beat. “No, we did not.”
“No?! Why don’t I believe it?” Zhao Yimeng sized her up. “You both certainly have an issue. I’m sure my guess is pretty accurate.”
Shen Wanying: “Hope you can also guess the exam questions this accurately, too.”
Zhao Yimeng: “——”
Our lady is teasing people. Something is definitely going on!
However, Zhao Yimeng couldn’t figure out the situation. Shen Wanying’s lips were tightly sealed.
Can you not be so tight-lipped?
If possible, Shen Wanying wished to take this matter to her grave.
When she got home, she changed her clothes and went downstairs for dinner. Jiang Yu and Shen Qian were both in the living room. When Shen Wanying saw them, she went over, and the family chatted casually before the meal.
Suddenly, Jiang Yu asked, “By the way, how are you getting along with Huo Cheng recently?”
Every time Huo Cheng was mentioned, Shen Wanying would automatically think of the book with the holy light. Her expression stiffened for a moment, but she quickly responded appropriately. “Very good.”
Jiang Yu nodded and continued. “Huo Cheng comes from an educated family, and he is smart. You should get in touch with him more and learn from him.”
“I will,” she responded, though she thought otherwise in her mind.
“Where does he live now? Is it with his grandfather?”
“That’s right, Uncle Huo didn’t come back.” As Shen Wanying said this, she felt a little curious. “Mom, Huo Cheng told me that his mother was ill. It seems that he only went abroad with Uncle Huo—”
Before she finished speaking, she noticed that Jiang Yu and Shen Qian’s expressions had changed. She stopped speaking and didn’t continue.
After exchanging glances with Jiang Yu, Shen Qian said to Shen Wanying, “Wanying, Huo Cheng’s mother died when he was ten years old. At that time, Uncle Huo suffered a great blow, so he decided to take Huo Cheng abroad.”
Shen Wanying was stunned. She wasn’t expecting this.
When she was a child she didn’t know much, and the adults didn’t tell her about Huo Cheng’s mother. So, she had never known.
“Don’t mention these things in front of Huo Cheng in the future.”
Shen Wanying nodded. “I understand.”
Jiang Yu looked at her and said, “I told you before, you shouldn’t inquire about other people’s family affairs at will. This is basic etiquette.”
“I know, Mama.”
After knowing about Huo Cheng’s mother’s affair, Shen Wanying felt a trace of self-blame and guilt for avoiding Huo Cheng today.
Strictly speaking, what happened at noon was her own fault. Huo Cheng was only trying to save her, but she had him cover her mistake. Besides, they would be meeting for the club activities tomorrow. So, it was impossible for her to truly ignore him.
This matter caused a knot in Shen Wanying’s heart in the evening. On the one hand, she felt that refusing to acknowledge Huo Cheng was indeed not so good. While on the other, she didn’t have the courage to face him.
When the next day arrived, she was still not in a good mood. As the last two classes finally ended, all the other students were excited to get to club activities.
Only Shen Wanying was worried.
