Husband’s Interrogation (2)

Shen Wanying felt her heartbeat quicken again. First, she and Huo Cheng knew each other when they were young, then they became classmates who participated in the archery club together. And now he was here waiting for her to go home together.
Why did I question him like that?
“Alright, let’s go.” Shen Wanying smiled calmly, successfully hiding how intensely chaotic the thoughts floating around her head were at the moment.
Since today was his first day at the club, she focused on the topic as they walked and occasionally inserted a few weekend plans. As they arrived at the school gate, Huo Cheng’s gaze swept around, but he didn’t see the usual car that picked her up. “Why hasn’t your driver come, yet?”
She was a little surprised. “Do you recognize my car?”
The car that the family sent to pick her up at school was of low-profile mixed amongst a heap of luxury cars that arrived at the private school. It was definitely not conspicuous in any way.
“I remember the license plate,” he said. Afraid she would misunderstand, he added: “I have a good memory. I can remember it after reading it once.”
“Oh—” Shen Wanying nodded. Is this how he squeezed Ji Yao out of the No.1 position?
“I have something to do today, that’s why I didn’t ask the driver to pick me up.”
He glanced in another direction. “My car is parked not too far from here. Where are you going? I’ll take you there.”
“No need.” The corners of her lips lifted slightly as she rejected his kindness. “I can go by myself.”
His brows unconsciously furrowed. “Is it safe for you to go by yourself?”
“It’s safe. I’m just going to meet my friend. We made an appointment at a nearby place so I’m just going to walk over.”
His expression didn’t relax much as he asked, “Then how will you go home at night? Is anyone going to pick you up?”
“We won’t stay for long. I’ll be done before evening and take a taxi home later.” Shen Wanying attempted to persuade. Nevertheless, the more she spoke, the more she felt something was wrong.
Why am I explaining myself to him?
It was as if she were a wife being interrogated by her husband.
“Then I’m going first.” Shen Wanying was afraid that he would continue asking her questions and quickly slipped away.
Speaking of which, it was too strange. Usually, it was difficult to pull more than a few words out of Huo Cheng. Why did he ask so many questions just now?
Watching as she left, Huo Cheng stood still for a bit longer before he went to his own car.
Shen Wanying hadn’t told him the whole truth just now, so what was she really planning on doing? She’d even deliberately told the driver not to come.
He tried to think back to the memories of his previous life. He couldn’t think of any clues for the time being, but she shouldn’t be in any danger, otherwise, he would’ve known.
Shen Wanying did end up returning home before the sun had set. However, she didn’t expect what was waiting for her after getting home. She received a WeChat message from Huo Cheng asking her if she had returned home safely.
Shen Wanying: “???”
Why did it look more and more like a husband checking on his wife?
【Shen Wanying: M-hm, just arrived ^_^】
【Huo Cheng: That’s good.】
【Huo Cheng: See you next week.】
【Shen Wanying: See you next week.】
Apparently, Huo Cheng only looked cold on the outside. He was actually a warmhearted person.
On Monday, Teacher Song, the homeroom teacher, announced two important pieces of news as soon as he entered the classroom.
“Next Friday, we will have the annual off-campus field trip. This time, the school has decided the second-year students will be visiting the Starlight Farm1This is a piece of land that can be hired by people for growing food, kinda like community farming. This is under the Starlight General Merchandise under the ML of Hear My Heart: My World Falls into the River of Love of the Chestnut Verse. Midnight Cinderella’s FL grows her veggies here as well.”
All students cheered enthusiastically at the news.
Teacher Song asked them to calm down before continuing. “In order to let everyone spend the field trip pleasantly, our school has especially shifted the monthly exam to be a few days earlier on Wednesday and Thursday, before the activity on Friday.”
The cheers in the classroom died down instantly turning into groans of frustration.
Teacher Song waited for the whole class to calm down, then once again brought up good news. “Don’t worry, this time we won’t rush to correct the papers before the weekend. Therefore, after the field trip, you can have a happy weekend.”
Some students enthusiastically asked, “Will we have homework that weekend?”
“Of course… you will.”
“How is that a happy weekend then?”
“It’s just like having homework to accompany your happy weekend.” Teacher Song smiled amiably. “Furthermore, there is still more than a week, so everyone should actively prepare for the exam. The class president and the event committee members will organize the field trip. I have the field-trip rules and will give you each a copy later.”
“Okay.” Shen Wanying and the other event committee members nodded in agreement.
“Now, let’s start the class.”
Probably due to the news, the students were still a little absent-minded for a while. But Ji Yao, who was usually the most absent-minded, was intensely writing notes in his exercise book. All his classmates had noticed his recent changes. As the old saying goes, there is pressure only when there is competition and motivation when there is pressure.
Ji Yao was doing his best to compete with Huo Cheng for the top spot in this monthly test!
Seeing the former No.1 putting in great efforts to study had probably infected the spirits of the other students. Thus, everyone quickly entered study mode.
Before school ended that afternoon, Shen Wanying and the event committee members stood in front of the class.
“Everyone, please give us 10 minutes before you leave. Let’s discuss next week’s field trip,” Shen Wanying said while holding the copy of the rules Teacher Song had passed out.
She briefly explained: “This is not our first field trip. I believe you all know the basic discipline, so I won’t go into the details here. This is a one-day and one-night field trip. On Friday morning, everyone will gather at school at the specified time and take the bus to the Starlight Farm. Since we will be spending the night outside, don’t forget to bring everything you need.”
Compared to the monthly exam, this was undoubtedly a topic that got people immediately excited. Everyone soon began to whisper amongst themselves happily. One could see how much they were looking forward to it.
Even if this was Huo Cheng’s first time participating in the high school field trip, he wasn’t technically a high school student in essence. As a 24-year-old adult, this kind of activity wasn’t much different from a business trip to him.
His only concern at the moment was that he remembered that Shen Wanying had been seriously injured during this trip.
