Chapter Courtesy: Wang Mei
In the kitchen, Fang Yichang, who was still busy preparing lunch, shot a glance at Wang Tingting and shouted back, “What? What stealing? I asked Zhao Yimeng to wash the strawberries and sent it to My Lady.”
Wang Tingting was displeased. “Why? Those are the strawberries I picked!”
Fang Yichang snorted. “Didn’t you pick it with My Lady?
She pursed her lips and replied feebly, “Then half of them are mine. Why did you give them all to her? Besides, the strawberries are going to be used to make fruit salad. Now that you gave them all to her, how should we make it?”
“Oh!.” He took out the fried vegetables from the pan and let Wang Tingting take a look. “I thought that she sprained her ankle. Since your feet are okay, can’t you go pick another basket? Why are you yelling at me here? Also, you’re the one responsible for her sprained ankle.”
Wang Tingting was really going to die from anger. First, she was scolded by Huo Cheng in the infirmary. And now, she was also being reprimanded by Fang Yichang. Why was everyone berating her? How was she to know Shen Wanying would stupidly fall off the ladder?!
But she didn’t dare to stir up a fight with Fang Yichang. Although he had never beat up a girl before, he was still a problematic teenager so she didn’t want to provoke him. She picked up a fruit basket and said to Qiu Ziqing, “Wait here while I pick some more strawberries, okay?”
“I’ll go with you,” the other girl said before following Wang Tingting.
At the entrance of the infirmary, Zhao Yimeng walked in with a large bowl of freshly washed strawberries. “Dear Lady, I’m here to give you strawberries!”
While Shen Wanying’s foot was being bandaged, she raised her head. “So many?”
“Yeah, Fang Yichang asked me to bring them all. I’m not leaving Wang Tingting any!” After finding a spot to place the basket of strawberries, Zhao Yimeng squatted in front of Shen Wanying to take a look. “Does it hurt? Did you get injured anywhere else?”
“It’s okay, only a sprained ankle. I’ll feel better after taking the medicine.”
“That’s good. Come, let’s eat these. Huo Cheng, you too!” Zhao Yimeng enthusiastically asked everyone to eat.
Shen Wanying picked a strawberry while Zhao Yimeng also welcomed herself to eat and picked one up. “By the way, Fang Yichang wanted me to ask Huo Cheng to go back quickly. He has his hands full in the kitchen.”
Huo Cheng glanced over. “I will go back after I take Shen Wanying back to her room.”
“Hey,” Zhao Yimeng fed herself another strawberry and spoke sincerely, “Fang Yichang also said that he also wanted to visit Shen Wanying. But he hasn’t come, right? Because he is aware that he should stick around in the kitchen for now. If he also came here, no one would have lunch today, and Our Lady also won’t be able to eat. Men shouldn’t be worried about their children all day long. They should shoulder their own responsibilities!”
Huo Cheng: “——”
Shen Wanying smiled as she looked at him. “I think what Fang Yichang said is very reasonable. Now there is only one person in our class who is in the kitchen. Since he has to take care of both sides by himself, he will definitely exhaust himself this way. Moreover, there are still so many things to do at noon and a lot of people are waiting for dinner.”
Huo Cheng hesitated, while the doctor at the side opened his mouth, giving advice. “I think you should stop fighting. This student will stay here to rest and doesn’t need to go back to her room. Anyway, you will have lunch outside at noon. She should stay so she can avoid having to run around.”
Shen Wanying nodded in agreement. “Listen to the doctor.”
Huo Cheng: “——”
“Doctor, you too, go ahead and have some strawberries.” Zhao Yimeng offered enthusiastically.
Finally, Huo Cheng stood up. “Then both of you stay here. I will go back to the kitchen first.”
“Okay.” Zhao Yimeng watched him leave, then approached her friend to make some inquiries. “I heard from the others… Huo Cheng came back with you today. Just two of you, eh?”
“——” Shen Wanying pretended she didn’t understand. “This strawberry is so sweet and delicious. You can eat more.”
Although Zhao Yimeng already knew the strawberries were being used to shut her up, she still ate them, unconvinced.
Because they were really delicious!
Huo Cheng returned to the kitchen. Following that, the pressure on the kitchen from the lack of helpers dropped sharply and lunch was finally prepared right before mealtime. Zhao Yimeng assisted Shen Wanying with leaving the infirmary and went to join the others at the lunch area.
Everyone was exhausted after working all morning. Now, they all sat and chatted together while waiting for the food.
Zhao Yimeng and Shen Wanying sat together with Huo Cheng. The dishes provided by the farm were placed on the table in advance and the remaining chefs also came out.
On this trip, as usual, there was one lazy class who made hot pot to eat. As it finished cooking, the appetizing aroma of the freshly prepared food wafted through the cafeteria. Fortunately, the dishes served by Huo Cheng were also delicious, which was a relief for the students.
He had cooked a total of five dishes that were made according to Shen Wanying’s liking. Furthermore, they had made the mushroom pork rib soup together.
Although Shen Wanying only helped with cutting up the mushrooms, she insisted that it was half her hard work.
Another student in the class had also prepared a barbecue for everyone. The meat and vegetables were all served. It was a perfect match with the fruit salad dish in each class.
Everyone had a great lunch and Huo Cheng’s cooking skills were well received by the students. The boys didn’t understand. The two top students in their class were not only good academically but also good at cooking. The skills of top students nowadays, are they a buy one get one free?
“More than that, they even look good.” Zhao Yimeng faintly stated.
The boys in Class 1 suffered more internal injuries.
There were many recreational facilities on the farm. Since the afternoon was free and the weather quite good today, many students chose to spend some time flying kites. As a result, the sky looked like a steamer pot densely packed with little kite-shaped dumplings.
If she hadn’t sprained her foot, Shen Wanying would’ve also liked to fly a kite. But since she couldn’t run, she could only go back to her room to rest. Meanwhile, Huo Cheng had finished helping clean up the kitchen. Only after he asked the other students about her whereabouts when he couldn’t find her did he learn she had already returned to her room.
Shen Wanying and Zhao Yimeng’s room was on the third floor of the hotel. Thankfully, the hotel had an elevator, so she didn’t need to climb the stairs. When she was about to take a nap, she heard a knock on the door.
She glanced at the door and asked, “Who is it?”
“It’s me.” Huo Cheng’s voice came from the outside.
She recognized his voice and walked over to open the door. Huo Cheng stood outside, holding an orange in his hand.
Shen Wanying was taken aback for a moment, then smiled. “What’s the matter?”
He looked at her feet. She had put on a pair of slippers. It seemed that she’d brought them from home.
“Does your foot feel better?”
“It’s much better, but I plan to stay in the room this afternoon.”
“Well, then have a good rest.” He handed her the orange. “After I brought back the oranges you picked, I kept one for you.”
The fruit salad for today’s lunch also had oranges in it. Shen Wanying thought that all the fruits she had picked were used to make salads. She didn’t expect Huo Cheng would save one for her. It was obvious that the orange was specially picked. The color and shape were really good. It also had been carefully washed by steaming it.
It looks very tempting.
“Thank you.” She smiled at him.
Huo Cheng gave her a quick glance and quietly said, “Then I won’t bother you while you rest.”
Shen Wanying stood at the door, watching him walk away before closing it.
She sat down at the window and put the fruit on the small table beside it. The orange, which was bathed in the sunlight, looked rounder and lovelier, making anyone that looked at it reluctant to eat it.
Her lips curled as she tapped her finger against the rind. Then she went to bed and fell asleep.
