He was so strong and decisive in love
Huo Cheng looked calm and stoic on the outside, but who would’ve guessed he would be so strong and decisive in love?
She froze for a moment then smiled, “I’d imagine the person you like might not need you to sacrifice yourself; she would probably prefer the two of you to be happy together?”
“Mm……” was his tired response, eyes still fixed on her.
Shen Wanying closed the book in her hand. “You should sleep for a while.”
“Mm ……” Huo Cheng finally closed his eyes slowly.
She gently put the book back on the shelf and sat at his bedside, watching him. It was the first time she had ever seen him asleep – he looked much softer than when he was awake, his bangs resting softly on his forehead, his long, slender eyelashes occasionally fluttering lightly, uneasily.
Huo Cheng really had such pleasing features. If this scene was photographed, it would definitely sell better than a CP photo.
Time flew by as she sat there. By the time she returned to school, the first class of the afternoon was over. “My Lady, why have you been gone so long?” Zhao Yimeng couldn’t help but ask upon Shen Wanying’s return. “How is Huo Cheng? Is it serious?”
“Well, since the fever hasn’t gone down, I don’t think he’ll come to school tomorrow.”
“Ah, how did he suddenly become sick like this …… Tian Yu’s archery club must have bad fengshui or something!”
Shen Wanying was too stunned to reply. Maybe it wasn’t the archery club’s fengshui that was bad, but her words that had held too much weight…… If she had to lie again in the future, she would most definitely not say Huo Cheng was not feeling well.
Huo Cheng rested at home for a few days, finally showing up to class on Wednesday. When his classmates saw him, they all greeted him warmly, the most enthusiastic of them being Tian Yu, who wanted to talk to him about his sufferings.
Huo Cheng didn’t take his words seriously, but he did give him some token encouragement, now that the outcome of the competition rested on his shoulders. Tian Yu was at a loss for words at this. You tell me, how is this right? 🙂 1T/N: the passive aggressive smiley returns!
After school, the chauffeur took Huo Cheng straight home, causing him to return slightly earlier than usual. Huo Yanni was watching TV alone in the living room when she saw him coming back from school. “Huo Cheng, were you okay at school today?”
“Mm.” He nodded. Usually, he would have gone straight to his room when he got home, and waited until dinner before coming down. Today, however, he stood in the living room with his school bag, looking like he had no intention of going to his room.
Huo Yanni found this unusual, so she asked, “What’s wrong?”
Huo Cheng smiled warily, seemingly hesitant. “Well, there’s something I don’t know who to talk to about.”
Huo Yanni’s heart softened and she immediately patted the sofa beside her, looking at him with particular affection. “If there’s anything bothering you, you can talk to auntie! Come, come sit next to your aunt.”
Ever since Huo Cheng had returned from abroad, he had always been proud and cold, and was distant to them, the elders, although he was always polite. Today he actually had something on his mind that he wanted to say – it was like the sun had risen in the west. Of course Huo Yanni had to seize this opportunity to deepen the bond with her nephew.
Huo Cheng walked over, put his school bag aside and sat down. “The day I fell ill, I had a dream.”
Huo Yanni asked with concern, “What did you dream about?”
“I dreamt about my mother.”
If there was anyone in this family who was the best to talk to, it had to be his aunt. He didn’t know anything about his mother back then, but his aunt must know something.
Sure enough, once Huo Yanni heard this, she said with a start, “I said that you were sick in a strange way, but your grandfather wouldn’t let me get a master to look at the fengshui!”
“A master?”
“Yeah, I think it must be because your mother harbours too much resentment!”
Huo Cheng’s eyes twitched. He looked at Huo Yanni. “Why would my mother be resentful?”
Only then did Huo Yanni realize that she had had a slip of the tongue, and she instinctively covered her mouth, smiling awkwardly. “Oh, I’m just superstitious, you got sick so suddenly, so I wondered if something unclean was haunting you. Don’t listen to me, I’m just talking nonsense, your grandfather will definitely scold me again if he finds out.”
“Mm.” He nodded, still looking at her, “But the dream I had was so real, in the dream my mother told me that her car accident wasn’t an accident.” Huo Cheng kept his eyes on her, watching as her expression changed abruptly.
“Don’t think so much about it. You’ve only just recovered and need to rest more.” She forced out a smile as she tried to persuade him to go upstairs.
Rather than pursue the matter any further, he simply nodded and left.
He had wanted to inquire about his mother’s affairs, but hadn’t expected his aunt’s reaction to be so strange. Could it be that his mother’s car accident back then truly wasn’t an accident?
T/N: Thanks again to Bright Eyes for her help on this chapter!! Okay, if he used the “dream” as a ruse to bring up the topic, he is a freaking genius. I think this hints that maybe some of our suspicions might be true? Did you have such suspicions? I know I did. And I don’t know if it’s just me, or if the plot is picking up? If you want advance chapters because this is getting intense, you know where to ask~
NO NOT A CLIFF NOOO IT’S GETTING GOOD 😭😭😭
IT’S NOT JUST YOU THE BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN ZYM AND FYC IS LIKE A CHEMICAL REACTION
ay? wait? i got something?
HE NICKNAMED HER AH WAN AAAAA
Alright I’m somehow more convinced that he believed himself to be the “killer” because he blamed himself for Fang Ke’s death without being actually the cause of it? What if it’s like a suicidal pact situation? where fang ke is the one who’s a bit loco in the head and initiated the accident, planning to die with both the guy and he just has a survivor’s guilt after?
THE WAY YOU DESCRIBED HIS SECOND LIFE AS NG+ PLUS I’M CRYINGG
ughh now i feel like it’s really a huge red herring instead. It’s too clear and obvious
made an account for commenting here, but my current leading theory, considering the premise of the painted veil that was hinted before, his mom had cheated, his dad knew about and gave her a choice. Something to do with her disease and forced her to live in the mountain villa or to divorce, and for the sake of Huo Cheng she just rather go to the villa. They fixed their relationship and either his mom ended up cheating again or her lover is a yandere.
Also another thought is that daisies represent “innocence” which may suggest that his mom is innocent and she was wrongly blamed, either for the cheating or for something else that we don’t have enough information on. Or if still in line with the ‘cheating’ and the painted veil plot, it may suggest that His mom is someone who’s shallow/gullible like the main character of that novel is.
Watch as I’m embarrassingly wrong/this is a red herring thrown in by the author to kick us off guard. This is honestly such an interesting subplot to the fluffy and light-hearted high school romance
um what o.0

I was so confused!
This story is so good! Im totally hooked! 💕
I love your translations! They’re very smooth and comfortable to read even if you don’t read many Chinese novels.
Would this advance release you mentioned be more premium chapters that we’d have to pay for or would it be an early release on Novel Updates?
Most obvious thing is that his mother had an affair, and he ended up dead from something related to it.
Hello, I am new reader. I am loving the novel. Thank you so much for your hard work! And thanks for the new chapter.
About your note, since this novel is short and as far as I can see, is more on the fluffy than anything else, I don’t think the Huo family has anything to do with the ML mother’s death. Maybe one of then did something that stimulated her and thus lead to the cause of her death? But I think must of the reason is because she probably really betrayed ML father… The flowers ML saw are probably from the other man, and maybe he also did something that end up causing the ML mother’s death? Everything about that is very strange. Let’s observe more…
Not related but I just want to say: I really don’t believe the FL was the one who killed Huo Cheng. There must be something fish about his death as well. I trust FL.
Sorry my bad english.
Hey!! Not to be rude or anything but I don’t see any link to a discord server… Can someone please send it to me? Thank you so much!!
Don’t worry you weren’t rude at all. We’re still working on setting up the discord server link though. Thanks for being patient.
