Midnight Cinderella - Chapter 71
The Forty-Seventh Night (1)
Feng Jing was originally standing next to Xing Xin1Pen-name of Yan Ru Yu, the protagonist of Finding Glowing Beauty in Books <— click link to know more, the author and scriptwriter, discussing the next scene. Shooting on the mountain was hard, but Xing Xin remained with the group, which was a good opportunity for Feng Jing to exchange ideas because who would know the details better than the author himself!
Xing Xin shared a lot of his personal thoughts and gave his own suggestions on the performance. The two were so absorbed in their chat that they did not stop until the crew started setting the scene with the props. Feng Jing subconsciously stepped to the side. However, his foot slipped and Xing Xin failed to catch him.
After the staff shouted that Feng Jing fell, the entire crew shook. Several staff members followed Mi Xie Er and rushed down quickly.
Feng Jing hadn’t fallen far. His head had hit something and was currently covered in blood, rendering him unconscious. The director rushed to call the ambulance and had people bring the first aid kit to dress the wound.
The entire filming site was in chaos.
During the last few days of filming on the mountains, Qin Fan had always attended in person. Since it rained today, he was late to the set. While still on the road, he received a call from Mi Xie Er who sounded like he was on the verge of tears. “Boss Qin, Boss Feng fell and was injured on the mountain.”
Qin Fan was stunned for a moment. Due to the nature of Feng Jing’s character, his first reaction was disbelief. “This prank was pulled off by Meng Xiang Chuan last time. What are you up to this time?”
“This isn’t it. Boss Feng really fell and hurt himself,” Mi Xie Er said. “He lost so much blood, the director has called an ambulance.” With that, he finally broke down into tears.
Qin Fan frowned because he heard Director Xie shouting on the other side of the phone. He calmed down and stepped on the throttle. “How is he now?”
“The crew helped him dress the wound, but they couldn’t stop the bleeding completely, and he is still unconscious … Sorry Boss Qin, it’s all my fault, I didn’t take good care of Boss Feng.” Mi Xie Er wailed.
Qin Fan pursed his lips and said impatiently, “Is there any use in crying now? I’ll be there soon. How long before the ambulance arrives?”
“It should… should be soon, but the road on the mountain is difficult to travel through, and we dare not move Boss Feng casually.”
“OK, I know.” Qin Fan hung up and selected Feng Ping’s name among the contacts.
The ambulance came faster than expected, it almost arrived at the scene together with Qin Fan. Because there was no way across, the medical staff could only use a stretcher to lift Feng Jing up before entering the ambulance.
Qin Fan greeted the crew and told them to hold their tongues about this incident, but he knew in his heart it was useless. With so many people around, one person had only to leak something about it, and the entire country would know immediately. But the condition of Feng Jing’s injuries still remained unknown, and he had no energy to manage them now.
When Feng Jing was being taken to the hospital in an ambulance, Jiang Ran was just handing the ring to the bride and groom.
The wedding erupted in thunderous applause. After the bride and groom exchanged their rings, Du Xiaoyou was prepared to toss her bouquet. There was an etiquette behind throwing it, usually, the bride would deliberately aim it towards her bridesmaids. Jiang Ran stood beside another bridesmaid, and after receiving the hint from the groom’s eyes, she subconsciously focused in that direction.
The beautiful bouquet dramatically flew through the air, and all the unmarried girls at the scene screamed and rushed towards the direction it fell. As Jiang Ran wore high heels today, her agility had dropped by at least ten percent, so she could only follow the flow of people. Perhaps it was because Du Xiaoyou threw it too accurately, or maybe she was lucky, but despite being squished in the crowd, the bouquet still fell in her arms.
The crowd burst into cheers at the scene. Jiang Ran held the bouquet, waved to her friends, and walked back to her seat. Taking out her mobile phone from her clutch bag, she smiled and sent a message to Feng Jing.
【I got the bride’s bouquet, ha ha ha ha!】
【Jiang Ran: [pic] Looks good~right?】
Feng Jing didn’t respond but she wasn’t bothered because he had told her that the reception in the mountain was poor.
Yan Huanhuan had also gone to grab the bouquet just then. Although she didn’t get it, she could still borrow the bouquet from Jiang Ran. Then she posted a cute selfie first on her circle of friends on WeChat and then uploaded it on Weibo.
Yan Huanhuan had previously said that Feng Jing would be on hot search on Weibo many times this year. As soon as she logged into Weibo, the name ‘Feng Jing’ trended on the search bar again. After a careful look at the headline, she shouted out, “Ah!”
Everyone at the table turned to look at her.
Yan Huanhuan ignored the surprised gazes of the people around her, took hold of Jiang Ran’s hand, and handed the phone to her. “Feng Jing was injured while filming!”
Jiang Ran’s heart dropped, her eyes quickly zoomed in on the small font of the caption.
Feng Jing is hospitalized due to an injury.
Yan Huanhuan had already clicked on the topic, revealing posts from many large media outlets. Some even had pictures in their articles. There was a picture of Feng Jing lying on a stretcher and being carried down by the medical staff. He was covered with a thick down jacket, only showing a small part of his face. His skin was pale and appeared devoid of life…
“At the moment, Feng Jing has been hospitalized and his condition remains unknown.”
Jiang Ran blanked out for a few seconds, and then she picked up her cell phone and ran out. Without changing clothes, or even taking off those hard-to-walk-in high heels, she rushed out of the wedding scene.
“Jiang Ran, where are you going?!” Yan Huanhuan was also anxious. She carried her own bag, grabbed Jiang Ran’s bag and coat, and chased after her. When she ran to the intersection, she saw Jiang Ran, in her formal dress, getting into a taxi.
“Jiang Ran!” Yan Huanhuan shouted loudly, but she still couldn’t stop the taxi from leaving. She stopped to catch her breath and called Jiang Ran.
The line was busy.
… Damn, what the hell is going on?!
Jiang Ran had been continuously calling Feng Jing all the way, but his phone was always off. The phone was the only connection between them. If calling didn’t work, she wouldn’t know how to find him at all.
The taxi driver saw her running out of the wedding site in a dress and thought she ran away from marriage. When he heard that she was going to Central Hospital, he was a little confused. “Girl, what’s the matter with you?”
“My friend’s hospitalized.” Jiang Ran hung up the phone and dialed again. It was still off. The more times she failed to reach him through the phone, the more anxious she became.
Seeing her eyes turn crimson, the driver comforted her. “Don’t worry, the traffic is good now, so it won’t take much time to get there. Your friend will be fine.”
Not long after he said that he had to eat his words.
The closer they were to Central Hospital, the more cars there were as if there were some exhibitions being held. “What’s wrong? Usually, at this time, this section of the road is not jammed.”
As if in response to his doubts, the voice of a man came from the handset of the car.
“I heard that a star was admitted to the hospital. Now the media and fans are swarming the hospital. Traffic jams started near Central Hospital. Don’t go there if you don’t have important tasks.”
The driver said understandably, “As far as I’m concerned, these people from the media and fans are those who have nothing better to do, always making trouble.
Jiang Ran’s hand squeezed her phone tighter. She was about to make another call when a strange number lit up on the screen.
She had never seen this number, but her instinct told her it might be related to Feng Jing, so she immediately picked up and answered, “Hello.”
- “Hello, is Miss Jiang Ran there? I’m Feng Jing’s mother.”
Jiang Ran remembered the voice, she sat up straight suddenly, “It’s me, Auntie.”
- “Did you find out that Feng Jing is in the hospital?”
“I did. I’m on my way to the hospital.”
Mrs.Feng paused and asked her…
- “Where are you now?”
“I will arrive after crossing a couple of blocks, but there’s a traffic jam right now.”
- “Well, all the media are lingering outside the hospital. You may not be able to come in easily later. I’ll ask someone to meet you. Do you remember the driver who sent you back home last time?
Jiang Ran considered a moment and said, “Uncle Zhou?”
- “Yes, I’ll have him meet you outside, and you follow him when you get there.”
“Okay, how is Feng Jing now?”
- “He is still undergoing surgery, don’t worry.”
The driver thought that the name Feng Jing sounded familiar. Was the friend mentioned by Little Miss the big star in the hospital? He couldn’t help but do a double-take upon hearing Jiang Ran’s conversation.
After arriving at the hospital, Jiang Ran found that she did not bring her handbag. Fortunately, online payment made it convenient, and she directly used Alipay to transfer the fare to the driver.
The car was not parked in front of the hospital because it was already packed with cars. Countless people holding cameras and camcorders obstructed the entrance to the hospital. There were many young girls among them, likely all were Feng Jing’s fans who heard about the news. They were all stopped by the hospital security and those reporters.
Jiang Ran’s dress was so conspicuous, many a curious gaze from the curbside came her way. They thought: Did this person escape her wedding to see Film Emperor Feng?!
Jiang Ran ignored them as she looked for Uncle Zhou in the crowd. She didn’t feel the cold in the car, but when she got out, the chilly air gave her goosebumps as soon as it swept across her skin. She rubbed her arms with her hands and saw a middle-aged man rushing towards her.
“Miss Jiang, hello.” The man was very polite. Seeing that she was too cold to move, he took off his coat and draped it over her.
Uncle Zhou smiled and motioned her to follow him. “Miss Jiang, here.”
He led Jiang Ran through the emergency passage of the hospital where they met fewer people along the way. There was another reporter also trying to get in but was blocked by the security guard with keen eyesight.
Outside the operating room were Mrs. Feng and Feng Ya, there were also several men whom Jiang Ran did not know.
When Qin Fan saw Jiang Ran, he narrowed his eyes slightly.
