The Little Cat Demon (1)
After sleeping through two teachers, ahem, two class periods, Mi Wan truly felt that college was pretty nice after 500 years. At least the teacher did not care if someone slept in their classes. If this were her Master, she would have been thrown into the demonic tribelands to suffer tribulation.
Which was why when Butler Ye asked about her day in school after she got home, Mi Wan sincerely replied, “School was nice, the teachers were nice and the classmates were friendly too.”
More importantly, no one disturbed her sleep.
Butler Ye was instantly moved to tears. He grabbed the phone, ran back into hiding, and called the First Young Master to report on the Young Miss’s whereabouts for the day.
At 10 o’clock that night, when Mi Wan had finished showering and was about to blow dry her hair, her phone suddenly rang.
“Sparrow spirit?” Mi Wan accepted the call and dried her hair as she greeted lazily.
“Master, will you be out tonight?” The sparrow spirit had purposefully chosen this time to call because the few times he met Mi Wan was in the middle of the night, so he assumed that the Master had a weird habit of wandering around at night.
“What’s up? Another business opportunity?” Mi Wan asked.
“No, it’s my brother-in-law. He wishes to personally thank you and that elder.”
Elder? You mean Fan Chen?
“A verbal thanks won’t be necessary for me. Money is more practical.” Mi Wan felt that being hated was easier to deal with than being appreciated. If you hate someone, you can just deal with it using violence, but if the person were to bend over backwards to thank her; that would make her extremely uncomfortable.
“Th…Then what about the Elder?”
“Oh him…” Mi Wan glanced meaningfully towards the window and replied, “I’m guessing he won’t be meeting you either.”
“Can you ask him for me?” The sparrow spirit asked determinedly.
“Sure.” Although Mi Wan felt that Fan Chen likely could not be bothered to deal with the sparrow spirit, it did not feel right to reject on his behalf. And so she walked over to the window sill, pulled apart the curtains, and pushed open the window. Looking over at the building next door, she grabbed a glass and threw it over with all her might.
Mi Wan was super strong. The transparent drinking glass shot up and made its way over the wall. Just as it was about to crash into the second-floor window, a vine suddenly shot out from the ground and securely caught it within an inch away from its target. The window immediately slid open and a Fan Chen dressed in pyjamas appeared. He lifted the drinking glass that was hurled over and looked over dubiously.
Seeing Fan Chen looking towards her, Mi Wan waved happily.
Fan Chen frowned and flicked his index finger. The vine holding the drinking glass suddenly turned and moved, climbing beyond the courtyard wall and made its way towards the other party’s window sill, and then bloomed a single lavender flower.
“What do you want?” Like the flower’s fragrance, Fan Chen’s voice emitted lightly through the petals.
“The sparrow spirit wishes to meet you.” Mi Wan relayed the message.
“Sparrow spirit?”
“The one from last night. You treated his nephew, the level 7 little eagle.” Mi Wan reminded him.
“Him? What does he want from me?” Fan Chen finally remembered.
“He said his brother-in-law’s family wishes to personally thank you for treating the young eagle and wanted to know if you have the time.”
“No.” Fan Chen’s rejection was more concise than Mi Wan’s.
“Hear that? I told you he won’t meet you. But he seems to be fond of antiques. If you really want to express your gratitude, just send over two antique vases.” The phone was on speaker mode, so Fan Chen’s voice was naturally heard by the sparrow spirit.
“Oh, I…I understand. Sorry for bothering you.” The sparrow spirit no longer insisted and hung up the phone. Turning to face his brother-in-law, he shrugged helplessly, indicating that he tried all he could.
“I never said I wanted vases.” From the little lavender flower by the window, Fan Chen’s voice came flowing through again.
“Oh, I know. But if they insist on thanking you, it’s better to give them a chance to express it, otherwise, they won’t stop being sentimental. Believe me, it’s tiring.” Mi Wan came up with an “understanding” explanation. Besides, she had asked for the vases on Fan Chen’s behalf, it’s not like she wanted them for herself.
The lavender flower of the window sill wavered, as if it had something more to say but did not know what to say before it tucked its petals back into a bud and shut up entirely.
Mi Wan waited for the vines to recede before closing the window and went back to drying her hair.
Fan Chen was also about to head to bed, but when he turned, he realized that he forgot to return the drinking glass back to Mi Wan. When he was about to return it, he realized that the window was already closed, and he did not wish to make the cliche move of knocking on someone’s window in the middle of the night. Deciding that he would return it at a later date, he brought the glass back into the house with him.
When the glass ended up in his hand, Fan Chen felt a rough texture on the surface so he brought it up to the light and found a layer of etching. Etched on the surface of the glass was an exquisite drawing of a grinning rabbit that was gnawing on a carrot.
“The way it eats. Mm, they look alike.” Fan Chen smiled and placed the glass on the table.

The next day.
Get out of bed, shower, exercise, check weight.
Yup, lost another kilogram.
After breakfast, Mi Wan was sent to school by her driver. This time, she did not carry all her books like an idiot and only brought the three textbooks that she needed for the day, which lightened the load of her bag, which begs the question: 500 years ago she trudged around with a sword and spear, and 500 years later, she was able to heave around large bags of snacks without feeling tired. So how did a few books manage to bog her down?
Yup, still heavy.
“Miss Mi.” The moment Mi Wan entered the lecture hall, she immediately looked for an inconspicuous corner to sit. When she was about to wear her earphones and watch her drama shows, Han Xiao suddenly appeared in front of her.
“Class President?” Mi Wan looked up curiously.
“I sent you some information yesterday, why didn’t you reply?” Han Xiao asked.
“You sent me something?” Mi Wan did not recall receiving Han Xiao’s text, but seeing the other person act so insistent, she took out her cellphone and began looking through her text records.
“It’s not a phone text. It’s a WeChat text.”
“WeChat?” Mi Wan froze, “Er… Sorry about that, I don’t have WeChat.”
“How do you not have WeChat? You are still listed in our class group.” Though she never posted.
“It’s not that. I lost my phone a while ago. This is a new phone and I haven’t downloaded the app.”
“Then hurry up and download it so it’s easier to contact you in the future.” Saying that Han Xiao placed a few books in front of Mi Wan, “These are notes from the first half of the semester and homework. Take it back and look through it properly. As long as you can understand them, the final exam questions shouldn’t be a problem.”
He spent last night organizing all of this, based on his capabilities, he never needed to take down many specific notes. Most of it were notes that he borrowed from his roommates.
“This many? Couldn’t you just give me a list of reference questions to memorize for the final exams?” Mi Wan complained.
“Knowledge is only yours if you learn it yourself.” The high-achieving student did not agree with the opportunistic habits of this lazy student, but he did not intend to lecture her so he left as soon as he tossed her the information. This was far as he would help her anyway.
Upon seeing the thick stack of notes, Mi Wan wanted to cry. I just reduced the weight in my school bag and now it’s full again. The first period hasn’t even started!
When Han Xiao returned back to his seat, his roommate asked curiously, “You spent the whole night organizing those notes for Mi Wan?”
“Yeah.” Han Xiao nodded.
“Why did you spend all that effort to help her gather notes?” Although Han Xiao had good grades and usually liked to help other students, he would only help with minor problem solving when they asked. It was the first time he had spent so much effort gathering and organizing notes, and it was even for someone who hardly had any presence in class. He would have understood if it were for a pretty female student.
“She paid for tuition assistance.”
“Ooh, how much?”
“100,000.”
“Holy~~” It’s 100,000 yuan. If it were him, he would also be willing to spend the night organizing everything.
The morning classes came and went. Aside from watching drama series, Mi Wan also downloaded the WeChat app. She did not initially download the app because she just woke up and was trying to adjust herself to technology that was 500 years ahead of her. Even with the original host’s memories, it still took time to get acquainted with everything. Another reason was that the host did not have many contacts, to begin with. Other than her family and a few people that she thought were her friends, she only used it for purchases.
As expected, after she revived her WeChat account, most of the notifications were commercial ads asking if she was interested in new products. Mi Wan spent half an hour deleting all the notifications until all that remained were updates from her class group that had its notifications turned off, as well as the text updates that Han Xiao sent her last night.
(Thank you for the notes.) Though she never liked studying, she still gratefully accepted Han Xiao’s efforts.
Han Xiao immediately replied: (No problem. Study hard. Ask me if you have any questions.)
Mi Wan smiled, before noticing that there was a red dot in her inbox. She tapped it out of curiosity and 2 friend requests popped up. One was from the sparrow spirit and the other was from the president of the Demon Hunter Association, Bai Feng. Both requests were made a while ago.
Mi Wan accepted both requests and it did not take long before the other parties each sent a text.
Sparrow Spirit: (Master, you finally accepted my friend request.)
Bai Feng: (Master Mi, I heard you and Xiang Zhen are in the same school and you are even his senior.)
Mi Wan responded separately:
(I lost my phone previously, just revived the account.)
(Yup.)
Sparrow Spirit: (Oh, oh, Master, my brother-in-law has prepared the antique vases. Should I send them over tonight?)
Bai Feng: (Xiang Zhen’s cultivation is low and his personality is reckless. This issue regarding the poacher happened at H University, so if it is not too much trouble, will Master Mi be willing to help out with this matter?)
Mi Wan replied to the Sparrow Spirit: (Up to you.)
Followed by Bai Feng: (Sure, are you paying?)
Bai Feng: (But we are all demon hunters here.)
So we’re using connections now? Mi Wan huffed coldly: (I heard the poachers are also demon hunters.)
To be honest, if she were to encounter a poacher, Mi Wan would have just captured them along the way, but it was another matter when Bai Feng personally asked for the assistance. If she were to let this request slide, President Bai Feng would assume that she would be willing to accept more of such requests in the future. At that rate, she might die from exhaustion.
That was definitely effective. Bai Feng did not bring up the request again after laughing awkwardly.
