The Little Cat Demon (2)
The class was dismissed. Mi Want went to the cafeteria with a good appetite and ordered 4-5 dishes. Everyone around her watched in amazement as Mi Wan ate up everything and even bought a cup of milk tea after her meal.
A row of Ginko trees were lined up along the path of H University. This was the season where their leaves were at their most vibrant. In order to preserve the natural beauty, the people in charge of maintaining the school’s garden did not sweep this particular path. Vain female students would wear all sorts of pretty outfits and take selfies along this path. In addition, the annual online sales promotion day on 11 November just passed, so there were a bunch of new clothes waiting to be uploaded on their WeChat groups and reviewed.
Compared to other people’s fashionable appearance where they show off their long and slender legs, Mi Wan looked conspicuous and felt out of season walking in her conservative and wide trench coat.
“Ah~I need to lose weight quickly~~” Every woman naturally wanted to be seen as beautiful. Heck, even when she had to endure all that suffering 500 years ago, she would still catch demons while wearing flowers in her hair.
With a heart filled with regret, Mi Wan took a photo of the ground full of leaves and sent it to her friends’ group: Two more months, I want to lose another 100 kg.
The sparrow spirit liked it.
Mi Wan strangely felt a little better. No wonder people today loved to upload things to their friends’ group. It felt good to be liked.
“Miss, have you seen this person?”
“Haven’t seen him.”
“Miss…Senior.” While holding a sketch and wandering around for answers, Guan Li ran into Mi Wan.
“Who’s this?” Mi Wan glanced at the sketch. It’s the drawing of a middle-aged man, with a large mole on his face. “The person who hurt your little sister.”
“Yes.” Guan Li nodded, “This was sketched according to my younger sister’s memory of him.”
“So you haven’t found him.” Mi Wan took another sip of her milk tea as she inquired.
“Not yet. This person is particularly cautious, not even the school’s security cameras were able to catch his face directly.”
“Asking around with this drawing won’t necessarily get you any closer.” Unless stupid, a person would not stick around the area after stealing demonic sources.
“What if someone recognizes them?” Guan Li shot a cold glare through his cat-like eyes. He knew his chances were not high, but he could not simply sit around and wait while the poacher who hurt his sister and those of his race roam freely.
“Didn’t Blondie say that the Demon Hunter Association will take care of this?” Mi Wan asked.
“He couldn’t get any information on his end.” Guan Li grumbled discontentedly, “Besides, I want to catch him myself. I can’t let him off easily.”
Mi Wan suddenly had a newfound admiration for this cat demon. According to the dog demon from before, the demonic race has a tendency to abandon those among them who have degenerated. Not only did this cat demon choose not to abandon his younger sister after she degenerated, he even did everything he could to avenge her. He’s quite loyal.
“Guan Li.” At this point, Blondie came running from afar and was surprised to see Mi Wan, “You’re here too.”
Mi Wan smiled quietly.
“Did you find anything?” Guan Li knew that Xiang Zhen was using resources from the Demon Hunter Association to help with his investigation and guessed that there must have been updates.
“Found it. This person’s name is Li Ke. He’s a level 4 demon hunter and a wanted poacher.” Xiang Zhen nodded.
“Since he’s wanted, why isn’t he locked up?” Guan Li asked.
“This person is cunning.” Xiang Zhen explained, “Whenever we caught him, he had already sold the demonic sources and we couldn’t pin him without any evidence. We can’t just send him to the police and accuse him of animal cruelty. On top of that, he only poaches demons who have only recently degenerated.”
’Where is he?” Guan Li was suddenly agitated and grabbed onto Xiang Zhen’s shoulders.
“What are you thinking? You plan on looking for him yourself? He is a level 4 demon hunter and you barely reached the peak of a level 3. You cannot defeat him.” Xiang Zhen saw what his friend was planning to do and tried to talk him out of it.
“I don’t care. I want to avenge my little sister!” Guan Li exclaimed.
“Are you crazy? Your little sister has degenerated and her name has been erased from the Demon Hunter Association. On record, she is only an ordinary cat. If you go after him, you are intentionally going against a demon hunter. If he were to kill you, even the law cannot hold him responsible,” Xiang Zhen reminded loudly.
“My little sister has not fully degenerated. She still has her memories, she still understands me when I talk, she isn’t some stray cat on the side of the road.”
“She will soon enough. Even if Li Ke did not dig out her demonic source, she has at best half a year? Maybe a year? She would eventually fully degenerate and become an ordinary cat.”
“Shut up. When she was young, you even bought her candy and she called you her big brother. Have you forgotten?”
Guan Li was gravely hurt by Xiang Zhen’s words and threw a punch at his good friend. Xiang Zhen was unable to dodge and took a full fist to the face.
Their fight attracted several passersby and a red-eyed Guan Li ran off in embarrassment. From the direction he was heading, he probably went to visit his sister at the pet hospital. After taking a punch, Blondie’s eye swelled up. He sat on the sidewalk in shame, with a self-deprecating look on his face.
“Shit. If I can catch him, I would have helped you a long time ago.” Blondie punched the pavement in anguish.
“Does the Demon Hunter Association not care about poachers?” Mi Wan asked curiously. Bai Feng had just asked her to help Blondie, but judging from Blondie’s words, why does it sound like the Demon Hunter Association would not police poachers?
“There are two types of poachers. One targets demons for their demonic sources. The other type works like Li Ke, where they would poach on recently degenerated demons and collect demonic sources that are about to degenerate.” Xiang Zhen explained, “If it were the first type, the Demon Hunter Association would work with the demon races to capture them. But if it were degenerated demons, even their own tribes don’t acknowledge them as demons, so the Association has no stake in the matter.”
After all, no one would go after a human over an ordinary cat or dog and even less so when the parents of these animals have abandoned them.
“Demons are really sadistic.” Finally, Xiang Zhen could not help but vent, “Did you know when Guan Tong began degenerating, her parents wanted to dig out her demonic source so Guan Li could eat it? It was Guan Li who insisted that they should wait until he reached level 4 that stopped them from taking Guan Tong’s demonic source on the spot.”
Mi Wan was unsurprised by this news. The demonic race had always regarded strength above all and they relied on this belief to survive and multiply. Without strength, one would end up getting killed. Since that was the case, it was better to leave one’s degenerated demonic source behind and consider it as a contribution to one’s fellow demons.
There was only one class in the afternoon. Mi Wan did not want to go back too early, so she decided to wander around the food street outside her school. After walking around for half an hour, she came across Han Xiao who occasionally worked outside as a tutor. Seeing the 10 kabobs in Mi Wan’s hand, Han Xiao quietly asked, “Didn’t you want to lose 100 kg?” He just saw the post in his friends’ group, and while he did not think it was possible, he was polite enough not to say anything and decided to ignore upvoting it instead.
“Ah, what’s wrong with that?” Mi Wan looked back at him puzzledly.
“Eat less.” Not long after Han Xiao left, Mi Wan’s friend circle had another reply: Losing weight requires perseverance.
Mi Wan was in the middle of responding when another comment appeared, coming from her younger brother: 100 kg? So the diet meds didn’t work and you are finally getting liposuction?
Followed by a mocking emoticon.
Mi Wan could imagine that Tsundere look on the young man’s face and replied: Yup, just need the money for surgery.
“Ding~~”
Mi Wan’s cellphone immediately received a notification receipt of 100,000 yuan, with a note: Surgical fee.
Mi Wan was ecstatic and quickly accepted the transfer before reply with an emoticon: Thank you, Boss.
The other party also quickly replied with a text: If you use my money to buy drugs, I’ll kill you.
Even though he was rude, Mi Wan decided to forgive that silly child since he gave her 100,000 yuan.
While Mi Wan was happily responding to the text, she heard the cries of a young girl screaming for her older brother. It sounded so pitiful that even she was alarmed when she heard it. But when she looked around, she could not find the commotion, as if this sound could only be heard by her and no one else.
“Mew~~Mew Mew~~”
This is, the sounds of a cat demon?
Mi Wan looked towards the source of the sound, where a middle-aged woman carrying a tortoiseshell kitten just happened to be walking by. The tips of the kitten’s ears were pink and looked really familiar. Mi Wan saw an image of a desperate cat-eyed young man flash before her eyes and quickly stopped the middle-aged woman.
“Miss, what is it?” The middle-aged woman asked Mi Wan with a look of suspicion.
“You took the wrong cat.” Mi Wan pointed at the cat in her arms.
“How so?” The middle-aged woman was a bit frazzled, “This is my family’s cat.”
“Oh really. I picked up this cat yesterday and sent it to the pet hospital and even paid 6800 yuan in medical fees.”
“Ahem…I see. Thanks for saving my family’s cat. I’ll repay you that money.” The middle-aged woman clearly did not wish to continue interacting with Mi Wan and immediately pulled out her phone to refund Mi Wan.
“But Guan Li said that he would give me 10 times the money for saving his little sister.” Mi Wan grinned, “Shall I call him and ask?”
Once she heard that Mi Wan knew Guan Li, the middle-aged woman instantly stopped acting. A strange light flashed across her pupils as she attempted to hypnotise Mi Wan.
“Leave!”
Mi Wan chuckled and placed her palm against the middle-aged woman’s hand. With a slight pulse of spiritual energy, the woman’s hands immediately reverted back to their original form, revealing white fur and long cat claws, “Ho~ It’s not right to steal cats and that vet hospital is so poor that it’s about to go bankrupt. They won’t be able to afford the repercussions if you steal a cat from them.”
“You…” With one move, she could feel the massive difference in power between them. The middle-aged woman dared not move and looked at Mi Wan with trepidation.
“Give it to me.” Mi Wan reached out. Seeing that she could not beat her, the woman gave up the cat to Mi Wan and ran away in shame.
“After getting kidnapped by a person, you get yourself kidnapped by a cat. You are quite the kidnapee.” Mi Wan stroked the kitten’s pink-tipped ears. This is the power of a cat demon. Ordinary cats would have long died from the torment, “I’ll take you back. Once you see your brother, remind him to repay me 10 times the amount.”
“Mew~~” (Thank you.)
“Was she planning on eating your demonic source?” Mi Wan asked.
Mew~~” (She is my aunt. She wants my demonic source for my cousin. But I want to leave my demonic source for my older brother.)
“So when you did everything you could to escape the poacher, it was to leave your demonic source to your older brother?”
“Mew~~” (Yes!)
