Demon Tracker (1)
Mi Wan had just arrived at the entrance of the pet clinic with the kitten in time to see Guan Li dashing out of the door like a madman, with Blondie trailing closely behind him. The pair did not notice Mi Wan and glided out like the wind. Even the kitten’s cute cries were not registered by her brother.
“Mew~~” (Where is big brother going?)
“Probably off to look for your aunt.” Mi Wan guessed.
“Mew~~~” (Then hurry up and call my brother back. He’s no match for my aunt.)
“Let’s go in first.” Mi Wan did not bother to call them back. Those two were extremely fast runners and were long out of sight, so she carried the kitten back into the pet clinic.
Once inside, Mi Wan felt a gloomy presence. The couple who owned the clinic sat in front of the computer with their heads hung so low that they did not even notice Mi Wan walking in.
“What are you guys doing?” Mi Wan asked curiously.
Hearing a voice, the female doctor finally raised her head weakly. When she noticed that it was Mi Wan, she forced a smile, “Oh Miss it’s you…TONGTONG!”
When she noticed the kitten in Mi Wan’s arms, the female doctor jumped out of her seat in excitement and smacked her boyfriend hard. The pair then stared at the kitten in Mi Wan’s arms and asked carefully, “It’s Tongtong right?”
“Should be, looks like her.”
“But these tortoise kittens all look alike.”
“There’s a pink patch on the tips of its ears.”
“How about we check the wound?”
“It’s Tongtong.” Mi Wan watched as both of them tentatively reached over to check the kitten’s wound and finally spoke out.
The two adults still looked unconvinced and peered suspiciously at the kitten. Mi Wan was speechless, were these two possessed?
When they finally believed that the kitten in Mi Wan’s arms was Tongtong, the two immediately called to inform Guan Li. Mi Wan gave the kitten to the male doctor so that he could examine it.
“Where did you find Tongtong?” The female doctor poured a cup of water for Mi Wan.
“I happened to find it in the school bushes.” Mi Wan did not want to explain too much to ordinary people so she came up with a random excuse.
“That woman just now must have noticed that Tongtong wasn’t her cat so she threw her away. That’s too much! Why didn’t she return it when she realized it was the wrong cat?” The doctor lady rubbed her head in frustration, “It’s all my fault, how did I get the wrong cat?”
“How so?”
“There was a wealthy-looking woman that came in just now and said Tongtong was her cat. For whatever reason, I just believed her and handed the cat over without a second thought. If Guan Li did not come in to visit, I would not have realized I gave up the wrong cat.” When she thought about it, she began blaming herself once more, “I must have been under too much stress. My mind is scrambled.”
Your mind isn’t scrambled, you were hypnotized by a cat demon. No wonder when she walked in, those two were in a daze.
“Thank goodness you found Tongtong. If Tongtong disappeared, I won’t know how to explain it to Guan Li.” She still felt a little flustered when she recalled Guan Li’s horrified expression when he realized that Tongtong was missing.
At this moment, the door to the medical observation room opened. The male doctor brought Tongtong out with a smile, “All done. The wound did not open and there was no infection. It’s healing pretty well.”
“That’s good.” The doctor lady also breathed a sigh of relief.
At this moment, Guan Li received the call and turned around mid-run. When he rushed straight into the clinic, the first thing he did was grab Tongtong and hug her into his arms. After a quick glance over, and confirming that Tongtong’s demonic source was still intact, he was finally able to relax.
“Thank goodness, you are fine.” whispered (Big brother, I’m okay, it was big sister that saved me.)
“Big sister?” Guan Li finally noticed Mi Wan, and immediately understood. It must have been this demon hunter senior that came across his aunt who abducted Tongtong and helped him bring Tongtong back here, “Senior sis, thank you.”
Guan Li hugged his little sister and respectfully thanked Mi Wan.
“I just happen to be around,” Mi Wan replied humbly.
At this moment, Xiang Zhen who was lagging behind Guan Li finally made it. As a human, his running speed was naturally no match to those of a demon cat’s. After dashing in, he had to take a large gulp of air before he had the energy to talk, “Is Tongtong okay?”
“Mew~~” (Brother Xiang Zhen, I’m okay.)
After Tongtong degenerated, Xiang Zhen could no longer understand Tongtong’s words but he could tell that the kitten was trying to make him feel better. Xiang Zhen could not help but reach over to rub the kitten’s head. Tongtong remained still under his palm without making a fuss.
“It was you who saved Tongtong.” At this point, Xiang Zhen also noticed Mi Wan’s presence. During their previous interaction, he said a lot of mean things and even though he apologized, his apology was never accepted, so he always felt awkward every time he saw her.
“Yeah, I even gave up a lot of money for her.” Guan Li’s aunt was about to voluntarily give her 6800 yuan in medical fees and yet she rejected it.
A lot of money? Xiang Zhen and Guan Li froze but the little cat demon in their arms remembered.
“Mew Mew Mew~~~” (Brother, you need to give the big sister 68,000 yuan)
Mi Wan looked impressed: This little cat demon is not only smart but also good at math.
Although Guan Li did not understand it, he did not question it because (1) he had a high EQ, and (2) he was truly grateful towards Mi Wan and he did not lack the money. So, he pulled out his phone and asked Mi Wan for her WeChat ID: “Senior sis, let’s add each other on WeChat.”
The two added each other. Mi Wan was about to put away her phone when another phone was suddenly pushed in front of her, and Blondie mumbled: “Can you add me too?”
Mi Wan raised her brow and added Blondie’s WeChat.
After he finished adding a friend, Guan Li transferred 68,000 to Mi Wan on the spot.
Mi Wan instantly had a good impression of the sibling cat demons. When she mentioned the fee being 10 times to the little cat demon, it was just a flippant comment and she never intended to pursue payment. But since the other party has given it without any resistance, she did not feel the need to return it and decided that she would consider it as a deposit for any favors they might have in the future.
“Tongtong, don’t worry. I will take you with me wherever I go. I would never lose you again.” After making that payment, Guan Li lowered his head and comforted his little sister.
“Mew Mew~~” (Brother, you can’t always take me with you. If our aunt knows that you haven’t eaten my demonic source, she would complain to the tribal elders and make you turn me in.)
“Don’t worry, I will protect you.”
“Mew Mew~~” (Brother, you should just eat my demonic source. Tongtong doesn’t want anyone else to have it. When you reach level 4, go avenge Tongtong and our degenerated brethren, and catch the bad guy who stole our demonic sources.)
“I can get to level 4 on my own.” Guan Li patted the kitten in his arms and said in a low voice, “When I find that bad man, I will avenge Tongtong.”
“You haven’t found that Li…something poacher?” Mi Wan asked.
“Not yet.” Guan Li shook his head.
“How can it be that easy. That person is really sly, no one knows where he’s hiding.” Xiang Zhen ranted, “He’s also not registered under the Demon Hunter Association. Other than a name, there’s no other information about him. He’s hard as hell to find.”
“I have an idea that can help you find him.” Mi Wan glanced at the kitten’s claws.
“What idea?” Guan Li was instantly excited.
“Your little sister should have left a few scratches when she fled from him, right?” Though she had a hunch, she wanted to confirm it just in case.
“Mew~~” (When he held up his knife, I clawed his hand.)
The little cat demon nodded slightly.
“That makes it easy.” Mi Wan looked around her and found a round object on the shelf in the pet clinic. She picked it up and asked the busy doctor lady, “How much is this?”
“It’s not expensive, if you like it, you can have it for free.” The female doctor was still extremely grateful that Mi Wan found and returned the little cat demon. How could she ask Mi Wan to pay after doing that?
“Thanks.” Mi Wan did not reject the offer and grabbed a pen from the register. Under the intense gazes of the two guys and a cat, she scratched a strange diagram on the ball. When she was done, she placed the small ball in front of the little cat demon and whispered, “Lend me a bit of your demonic power.”
“Mew Mew~~” (Sister, I’ve degenerated, so I can’t control my own demonic powers.)
The little cat demon replied weakly.
“Then I’ll borrow a bit from you, just don’t fight me.” Mi Wan never thought the little cat demon had weakened to the point that it could not control its own powers and could only use her hand to draw out a small bit of demonic power from the kitten before transferring it into the ball.
“This thing…it’s a demon tracker?” Xiang Zhen was paying attention to Mi Wan’s movements. At first, he only thought that Mi Wan’s drawing was familiar but when she asked for a bit of demonic power from the kitten, he was able to confirm it: Wasn’t this the demon tracker that his Master told him about in the past?
“You recognize it, that makes this simple.” Seeing that Blondie was able to recognize a demon tracker, she did not need to waste any more time explaining and went straight to the point, “Come. It still needs a drop of blood from you.”
“Why are we using my blood?” While the demon tracker required the blood of a demon hunter to be activated, this was not a spell he drew up.
“I’m a weak young girl.” Mi Wan looked pointedly at Blondie.
“…” You weigh 160 kg, how are you weak?
“Aren’t you Guan Li’s good friend? You won’t even sacrifice a single drop of blood?” Mi Wan gave him a judgemental look.
“Give it.” Xiang Zhen was at a loss for words and resigned to his fate.
“This demon tracker only lasts for 8 hours. After 8 hours, it will automatically stop working.” Mi Wan glanced at the clock and decided that it was about time for her to go back home, “I still have stuff to do, so I’m leaving now.”
“Senior sis.” Guan Li suddenly called out to Mi Wan.
Mi Wan turned quizzingly.
“Can you take care of my little sister for the night? She’s not difficult. You just need to bring her home and give her back to me tomorrow,” Guan Li said worriedly.
“Mew?” ( Big brother?)
While the little cat demon did not understand what was going on, Mi Wan did. Tonight, Guan Li was planning on using the demon tracker to hunt for that poacher and exact his revenge, but he was also worried that his sister would be abducted again while he’s not around. That’s why he wanted Mi Wan to take the little cat demon home with her and protect it.
His motives were clear as day.
If it were someone different, Mi Wan would never have agreed to it, but she really admired Guan Li’s protectiveness towards his younger sister. This was just like 500 years ago when she had a bunch of protective senior brothers. Despite being weaker than her, every single one of them would constantly rush in front of her during battle.
“Just this once.”
“Thank you, Senior Sis.” Guan Li breathed a sigh of relief when Mi Wan agreed and transferred his little sister into her hands with ease.
Mi Wan left the pet clinic with the little cat demon, and let Guan Li and Xiang Zhen deal with the pet doctor who insisted that the kitten’s injuries had not recovered enough to go back home. She slipped back to the school entrance and waited for her driver to pick her up.
