The Demon Tracker (2)
“Miss, where did you get that cat?” Once in the car, the driver, Xiao Zhang, noticed the cat in her arms.
“It belongs to a classmate who wants me to take care of it for a night,” Mi Wan explained easily.
Xiao Zhang nodded, not prying further, and drove out of the school grounds. When they reached the eastern suburbs, Xiao Zhang did not drive the car straight back home, instead, stopped outside a supermarket.
“Auntie Zhang said the house is out of yogurt and wanted me to bring some back home to help you make your diet meals.” Xiao Zhang undid his seatbelt and turned to ask Mi Wan, “Young Miss, do you want to walk around a little and buy something to eat?”
“You’re not going to help Auntie Zhang and the rest of them supervise my weight?” Mi Wan raised her brows.
“As long as you finish it outside, I’ll pretend I did not know.” Xiao Zhang gave a sly smile.
“Since you say it like that, how can I refuse your goodwill?” Mi Wan chuckled and got out of the car with the little cat demon in her arms. Unfortunately, when they reached the entrance of the supermarket, they found out that it does not allow pets to enter, so Mi Wan could only wait for Xiao Zhang to finish buying his groceries.
“Excuse me.”
Mi Wan was browsing Weibo with her head down when a janitor who was dragging two large garbage bags walked towards her. Mi Wan found him familiar.
“Grandpa Mao Mao?”
“Girl, it’s you!” The old man also recognized Mi Wan and cried out in surprise. He then set aside the two garbage bags and only continued talking to Mi Wan after making sure they were not blocking the way, “Have you lost weight?”
“Yes, I’m on a diet.”
“It’s good to lose weight. Good, good. It’s cute when young ladies are a little chubby, but you can’t be married off if you are too fat. You look really good right now.”
Mi Wan smiled and asked, “I thought you are in charge of the area around the convenience store? Why are you here?”
“It was Mr. Li who gave me this job. I help clear away the trash from the supermarket and separate the recycling, and he pays me 2000 yuan a month,” The old man smiled as he replied.
“Mr. Li? Does he own the supermarket?”
“Yes yes! Remember back then…” The old man lowered his voice, “when Mao Mao was beaten up by that owner. No matter what, it was Mao Mao who was in the wrong first for going into their supermarket and damaging their goods. I wanted to repay them the money. When I came over last week to return the money, not only did Mr. Li not accept my money, he even gave me this job and said he would just deduct the damages from my pay. I knew that Mr. Li was purposefully trying to take care of me because he saw that I’m a penniless old man.”
“That’s nice of him. What about Mao Mao? What is he doing?” Mi Wan asked.
“He is also helping me collect trash. He took two large garbage bags and left before me.” When his grandson was mentioned, the old man spoke worriedly, “I wanted to let him go to school. He’s only 16 years old but I don’t know if it is possible in his circumstance.”
The old man was only an ordinary human after all and did not know if demons could attend school. He was also worried that Maomao’s identity would be exposed and the possibility of him getting hurt because of it.
“Grandpa.” When he noticed that the old man had been gone for a while, the worried teenage dog demon came back looking.
“Maomao, come quick. Look who I found.” The old man waved excitedly at the young man.
“Oh, it’s you~~” The young man had a cold personality and treated his benefactor with a bland expression. He still detested demon hunters and nodded at Mi Wan while bending down to pick up the trash bags by the old man’s feet.
“I’ll do it. Let me do it. You both should catch up a bit.” In the old man’s eyes, Mi Wan and Maomao belonged in the same world. He wanted his grandson to have more friends, which was why he grabbed the garbage bags and dragged them away, leaving the young man behind.
“Weren’t you good at making money? Why are you letting your grandpa collect trash?” Back then when he owed her a million, he was able to pay it back in less than a month.
“He doesn’t like me using special ways to earn money. He said it isn’t good for me and I need to pick an honest job,” said the teen.
“You are quite obedient.” He could have easily become a millionaire, but he listened to the old man and was willing to work honestly by collecting garbage. That loyalty was hard to come by.
The young man ignored Mi Wan’s sarcasm and glanced at the kitten in her arms, and asked, “Is this your next patient?”
Mi Wan paused and looked at the cat in her arms before she said, “Her condition is worse than yours. I’m not sure I can treat her.”
This was also why Mi Wan never voluntarily mentioned anything about treating the little cat demon. Compared to the dog demon, her condition was far more serious. When Mi Wan first saw the dog demon, though it was unable to shift, its demonic source was not completely swallowed by demonic poison. It was different for this little cat demon in her hands whose demonic source had already begun to corrode. Even if she could expel the demonic poison, there was nothing she could do about the cat demon’s damaged demonic source.
Once a demonic source began corroding, the end result for that demon would be the same even if the demonic poisoning was treated.
“You’re not sure, which means there’s still hope.” Perhaps it was because he had previously experienced degeneration but this young man’s desire to survive was a lot stronger than an average person. He lowered his head and asked the little cat demon, “Which cat tribe do you belong to?”
“Mew~~” (My name is Guan Tong.)
“The Tong family is the wealthiest clan in the cat tribe. Their family manufactures jewelry. Their store’s prized item, the Soul of the Cat Eye, is worth 30 million. I remember her brother is a Siscon. If you can treat her, you should be able to earn a lot.” The young man reminded her meaningfully.
“You seem to know a lot. You’re not of low birth, right?” Mi Wan could see the young man’s aura. It had been a month since they saw each other. Once a dog demon with barely a demonic presence had now recovered to the early stages of level 2. Even when it was degenerating, it was not weak, “Please don’t tell me you are the prince of some dog tribe.”
“No.” The young man quirked his lips before coldly turning away and left.
“What are you acting so cool for? You think you are a wolf or something?” Mi Wan jeered.
After a while, Xiao Zhang finally came back out with a bunch of items in his hands, “Young Miss, I’m sorry about that. There were many people lining up at the registers.”
“Let’s quickly return.”

11 O’clock at night.
Guan Li and Xiang Zhen followed the demon tracker to a remote park in the northern part of the city. A middle-aged man was carrying a sack and standing at the entrance of the park. Guan Li immediately recognized him as the demonic-source-stealing poacher, Li Ke.
When Guan Li recalled the ground littered with cat corpses and his little sister’s injured state, he could not control his demonic powers, and cat ears and claws sprouted from his body.
“We agreed to find him and leave. You cannot beat him.” Xiang Zhen pulled Guan Li and coaxed him.
Guan Li had reached the peak of level 3 and Li Ke was a level 4 demon hunter. Based on cultivation alone, Guan Li was no match for him. He followed along because 1) he wanted to help his good friend find this person and 2) he was afraid that Guan Li would not control his impulse against a stronger opponent. At the very least, he could use the Demon Hunter Association’s reputation to stop the other person from killing Guan Li.
“I know.” Guan Li nodded and transformed into a white shadow on the spot before jumping up the large tree beside him. His body transformed into a cat in mid-air and darted through the foliage, like a calm panther hunting in the dark.
Guan Li squatted on a tree branch above Li Ke’s head. His golden eyes focused on the sack in the other person’s hands. He could clearly feel the demonic energy emitting from it. There should be at least 5 demonic sources in there.
“Mew~~” Guan Li lightly called out. Instantly, the cries of cats echoed simultaneously and the entire park was suddenly surrounded by stray cats. When they saw Li Ke, it was like seeing a cattail. They instinctively rushed up with their claws and teeth bared, they started tearing into him.
“Go away, go away!” Like a corpse getting targeted by ants, Li Ke was unprepared for a group attack from all sides. Being flustered, he was only capable of flinging his arms and legs about to dodge the felines.
Guan Li waited for the right moment to pounce off the branch and aimed for the bag of demonic sources in his hand.
“How dare you! A mere cat demon!” Li Ke glared in the direction of the white cat and drew out a sword. Although Guan Li was able to avoid the attack, it broke his control over the stray cats. The stray cats regained their senses and scattered.
Knowing that the white cat was behind it all, Li Ke pointed his sword at Guan Li and said threateningly, “You give me that sack right now or I will dig out your demonic source!”
Guan Li glared at Li Ke coldly, only to open his feline mouth and swallow all the demonic sources in one gulp right in front of Li Ke.
“How dare-!” Li Ke’s eyes glowered. That was a total of 5 demonic sources. Even if they were of substantial-quality, they were still worth about six to seven hundred thousand yuan! “Repay me with your demonic source!”
Seeing Li Ke losing his temper, Xiang Zhen was afraid that his good friend was no match and was about to use his status as a member of the Demon Hunter Association to interfere. Unexpectedly, Guan Li who was just a level 3 demon suddenly swelled, his demonic aura exploded, and ….he leveled up on the spot.
Dang… No wonder demons love eating demonic sources. This medicine is more effective than steroids!
Level 4 vs Level 4, Maybe…I should just wait a bit before coming out? Xiang Zhen quietly retreated and hid.
“Mew~~” The white cat’s reflexes were quick as lightning. When Li Ke swung his sword at him, he was able to lightly jump on the sword and ran forward to do a scratch attack before retreating.
“Ah!” Li Ke was born with an ugly face with a large mole and now he had 3 additional scars added on top of that.
Guan Li had just leveled up, but his body was agile. On the other hand, though Li Ke’s cultivation was slightly higher, he could not overpower the white cat in such a short time. The fight between a human and a demon in the park was in full swing. It did not stop until the Demon Hunter Association intervened.
At this point, Li Ke’s body was riddled with scars and he was even blinded in one eye by the scratches, while the other party’s sword had stabbed Guan Li.
Meanwhile, Mi Wan had just finished her shower and carried the little cat demon to do a thorough examination. She recalled in the past where her Master had taught her how to restore a demonic source, but she could not remember the technique.
For the sake of obtaining that priceless treasure from the jewelry store, let’s try our best to remember?
