Chapter 121 – Midnight Singing (1)
When Ran Yan used to practice medicine, in order to be prompt, sometimes she had to eat breakfast while observing the corpse in the morning. It was a luxury to eat after the autopsy.
Ran Yan was starving. After washing her hands and face, she sat back in her seat and ate with her head down, fast and courteous.
Provincial Governor Liu and Xiao Song looked at her in astonishment. Ran Yan was eating, and when she noticed everyone’s eyes, she felt that she seemed to be acting too differently, so she silently put down her chopsticks and stood up, as if to vomit, she said, “If there is nothing else, I’ll go back to Yingmei Nunnery first. I’m sorry.”
After saying that, she bowed and led Wan Lu and Ge Lan to leave in a hurry.
Xiao Song’s hearty laughter came from the yard, and Ran Yan felt that her face was burning badly, and her steps became more and more urgent.
When Ran Yan went back, she deliberately avoided the library. Although she felt that she didn’t like Sang Chen, it wasn’t wrong to reject him; but for some reason, she felt a little guilty in her heart. She felt that it was so sinful that she hurt a sincere heart. The feeling of seeing each other. But even so, if things happened again, she would still refuse with her own heart.
In fact, Ran Yan didn’t really like anyone in her heart, even if she would reluctantly marry Sang Chen. She thought that a person like Sang Chen should have a woman who would sincerely treat him with genuine love. That woman should be meticulous, virtuous, and capable. Not a person with a dull mood like her. More importantly, she didn’t understand him, and Sang Chen didn’t necessarily understand her mind either.
“Seventeenth Miss Ran still doesn’t know how to disguise herself.” Xiao Song leaned on the back door at some point and looked at her with a smile.
Ran Yan looked around, thinking that this person flew over, so fast!
Xiao Song expressed his doubts, “It’s the closest path from the library. I guess you won’t go there.”
Looking at her guarded eyes, he took out a piece of paper from his sleeve, held it between his fingers, and handed it to her, “The oath, signed by Provincial Governor Liu.”
Ran Yan forgot about this because she was in a hurry. She reached out and took the paper. After unfolding it, she read it several times under the light of the lantern. She felt that there were no traps, so she folded it and put it in her sleeve pocket, saying, “Thank you.”
Xiao Song smiled irrefutably and said, “I’ll take you back, and I have a few words to say by the way.”
Ran Yan looked at him for two breaths, but after all, she couldn’t find any flaws in that perfectly disguised face, “Alright.”
The two walked out of the Yuncong Temple, side by side.
The moon and stars were sparse, the leaves were fluttering, and the shadows obscured the figures of the two. Ge Lan and Wan Lu followed behind them two feet away.
Xiao Song saw a leaf fall from the top of her head, and then slipped off her shoulders, sticking to the embroidered clothes. He wanted to reach out to help her take it, but he held the hand behind him tightly, restrained his movement, and looked at her. With a faint smile at the corner of his mouth, he asked, “Is it cold?”
Ran Yan was startled and shook her head.
“Seventeenth Miss Ran.” Xiao Song’s smile faded, and he asked seriously, “Are you familiar with Su Fu?”
Ran Yan staggered abruptly. Xiao Song quickly stretched out his hand to support her, the palm of his hand was wistful for a moment on her slender waist, and then he took it back.
“I stepped on a vine.” Ran Yan kicked the tree roots under her feet to cover herself up again.
Xiao Song burst out laughing, and the mist escaped from his beautiful lips. “I say, you shouldn’t play smart in front of me with this disguise. When deceiving others, you must first deceive yourself. For example, if you pretend you don’t know Su Fu, then you have to decide in your heart that you don’t know him, don’t remember his appearance, don’t remember his identity, don’t know his name, and have never seen this person.”
“What are you trying to say?” Ran Yan was a little embarrassed about being exposed, and she was also somewhat worried. Some time ago, Xiao Song didn’t know Su Fu’s true identity, but now he even knew his name. If he wanted to arrest him, it would be too easy.
“Just to remind you that Su Fu is the number one person wanted by the imperial court, the farther you are away from him, the better.” Xiao Song raised his eyebrows slightly, and said in a little self-deprecatingly tone, “This official rarely shows kindness, so don’t be so kind. It’s up to you. Compared with Su Fu, although Sang Chen is a little stubborn, he is a serious noble, and he is more suitable for a good family woman…”
“Don’t you see him as very unpleasant?” Ran Yan breathed a sigh of relief. Xiao Song didn’t squeeze out Su Fu’s true identity.
Xiao Song glanced at her, but wasn’t distracted by her topic at all, “I am in charge of my job, I can let him go for a while, but I can’t let him go forever. I will either arrest him and bring him to justice, or I will shoot him, so if you insist on being nice to him, don’t blame me at that time.”
It had been the case since ancient times in officialdom. Once the boss was blamed, the person who always did the real thing had to carry it.
Ran Yan sighed and responded with a muffled sound. According to Ran Yan, Su Fu was a rare person with who she had a tacit understanding. They rarely talked to each other, but they could talk very well when they talk. He could be a very good friend. Maybe they could get along and live together in the future.
Ran Yan thought about this matter very rationally. In general, she wasn’t a passive person. If she was really interested in someone, she would definitely take the initiative, rather than standing still and waiting for others to pursue her.
This is a wonderful work, why is in’t being updated at webnovels?
Are there plans to continue the translation?
Hi, I am so hooked!
I wanna read further but I don’t know how purchasing a chapter works
more hint, Xiao again sus of her involvement with Su Fu if he is familiar with him
ah ah ah! such a teasee they re getting comfy, romance still far away tho
no, i think? i wouldnt want to marry an infuriating person either. yet its a fact he is one of the best option considering ancient times’ bs.
he is bubbly, just too infuriating for Ran’s temperament. not recommended, she would get high blood pressure at this rate
i guess after this arc, she would head for the capital..?
their interaction is always entertaining hahaha. as for marriage, i wonder what author has in store..
First of all, thank you very much for picking this novel♥️ It is old, long and filled with medical/ancient jargon which make it challenging to translate. Contrary to some reviews, i find Yan’s personality is well fleshed and exist, ofc. It is quite fun to guess which is ML, (im rooting for Mr. Assassin) Yan has chemistry with those 3, tho Xiao is too old so nahh. The humor is adequate, Yan is cute sometimes. Feel sad for the twin, hate shitty fathers and happy for Ge Lan to be alivee. Hoping more reader come to support, this is a gem! I’m a hopeless reader who dont read mtl and im not interested to watch the drama due the changes they made.
Hi, are you still translating this ? I’m asking because it’s been a while and I was wondering
Yes, we are, although this is like 4 months late. And, this book will be on Patreon if you want to read advanced chapters.
Thanks for the update!
