- Apocalyptic Rebirth: Earth’s Vast Changes
- Chapter 17 - Fiery August (Modifying Garbled Codes) [1]
The renovation of the Qin’s Family Villa was carried out with an enthusiasm that was as hot as August’s fiery weather now. Fortunately, the tea prepared by Aunt Liu made everyone happy and quenched their thirst, allowing the progress to continue smoothly in spite of the hot weather.
Soon, the three-storied villa was covered with thin steel plates with the windows and doors as an exception. For those, a layer of mottled green adhesives was sprayed in advance. That way, when the sunlight fell on the window, it wouldn’t reflect the light and become a shining beacon.
And when one looked from a distance, it only looked like a desolate building that was covered with green plants, which wouldn’t raise anyone’s suspicion. Not only that, the inside of the windows were reinforced with thick steel plates that had sliding grooves in it. And it could be opened and closed horizontally to both sides. Furthermore, two thick bolts could be tightly fastened together and slightly increased the security.
The original greeneries in the lawns and gardens were uprooted until nothing was left. Not only that, it was also covered with steel plates and had its joints welded with tight wires as an added insurance. However, there were two hundred-year-old hibiscus trees in the courtyard that Aunt Liu was reluctant to cut. After a long discussion with Qin Luo about the matter, she managed to keep them.
Fortunately for Qin Luo, from the beginning, the wall of the Qin Family’s villa was not low. Therefore, it didn’t need to be revamped anymore. But for the sake of safety, Qin Luo still decided to set up a high and thick iron fence ten meters away from the courtyard wall. Furthermore, the other end of the fence was also buried about thirty centimeters below the ground. On top of that, it was made in a crisscross manner and connected together, which made it exceptionally sturdy.
Additionally, Qin Luo also planned to lay a thin layer of cement and gravel between the fences and extended the layer to around five or six meters beyond the fence. This way, it would reduce the potential attack from mutant plants.
The one Qin Luo chose to undertake the project was named Li Jun. He was a cheerful boss whose size was a whole round bigger than Qin Luo. After being in contact with Qin Luo for so many days, he became familiar with him. So, when he heard that Qin Luo wanted to lay cement, he only patted his chest in assurance and took the job without asking any questions.
Qin Luo had to admit that Brother Li had a wide range of friends and connections. He only had to make a few phone calls before the workers arrived early the next morning. And they spent more than a half day laying down the cement, gravel, and sand in the area Qin Luo had designated. Furthermore, they went as far as making it smooth, satisfying Qin Luo greatly with their work.
To commend them for a job well done, he paid them with extra money and booked a table in a small restaurant outside and invited everyone to dinner.
During their meal, someone asked Qin Luo about the reason why he wanted to make his villa look the way it did. Once someone voiced out that question, Li Jun’s ears perked up, also curious about the reason.
Fortunately, Qin Luo already had an excuse thought up. He said that one of his distant relatives was a director, and he wanted to shoot a zombie-themed film. When this distant relative saw his villa and its location, he fell in love with it, thinking that it was perfect for his film.
So, he begged Qin Luo to allow him to use it and to renovate it. As for why it should be renovated in this way, Qin Luo pretended that he was not particularly clear of the reason. He told them that perhaps it was for the film to be realistic, so all requirements must be real.
Listening to Qin Luo’s explanation, everyone immediately understood. No wonder he would do something like this to his own villa. So, this was why he made his villa look this miserable.
Still, once they knew this, one after another, they began to ask Qin Luo to help him open a back door for them. Of course, they also added that it was just in case there was a need for extras in the film or TV dramas. They figured that if there was a chance, then they might be able to change their position and showed their face on the screen.
Looking at this scene, Li Jun knocked their hands with the chopsticks in his hand one by one, laughing even as he scolded them jokingly. He then turned around and told Qin Luo to not agree with them as if they really hired this group of guys as actors, then a good horror movie would definitely turn into a comedy.
The workers were unhappy with Li Jun’s claim and refuted one after another. Who said that zombie films must be categorized as horror? Who said that it must be horrible? Anyway, there must be some people who would still be willing to watch zombie movies even if it had comedic nature in it.
Li Jun had never seen any zombie movies, he had only ever seen a few bloody posters when he was in the theater. As such, he did not know much about it. Thus, he could only turn to Qin Luo to ask for clarification.
Qin Luo had long seen that Li Jun belonged to people who did not believe in evil or demons. And Li Jun was definitely the type who would scoff disdainfully if someone told him that they had seen something bizarre.
However, after getting along with the other after so many days, Qin Luo had become very fond of this brother. So, he kindly told him the basic knowledge of the apocalypse he knew. Of course, he chose the one that was most similar to the scenes in several apocalypse movies.
Not only that, but he also briefly talked about some elements on how to survive in the apocalypse. Listening to Qin Luo’s explanation, Li Jun was stunned. He was so curious that he shouted that he would take a few days off after the completion of this project to look at the films Qin Luo had said.
