The Seventy-Fourth Night (2)
Jiang Ran was taken aback for a moment before turning around and seeing Feng Jing smiling at her.
His smile seemed to carry the taste of the morning sunshine, so beautiful, she was almost enchanted.
“Am I really good-looking?” Feng Jing suddenly asked, his voice especially teasing.
Though her ears slowly turned red, she still pretended to be calm. “You’re all right.”
“Oh? Then why are you staring so intently?” He laughed.
“I wasn’t.” Jiang Ran refused to admit that she had just been bedazzled by his beauty. “I forgot to scold you yesterday, what you did was too dangerous!”
The moment he heard that his head began to hurt, and he said as if surrendering, “I know. Feng Ping and the policemen took turns lecturing me yesterday for a long time already.”
“Of course, they had to! Since you had already called the police, why not wait for them, why run in yourself?”
“Isn’t it because I’m worried about you?” he said, feeling a little wronged.
“Even then, you can’t act so wilfully!”
Feng Jing looked at her and embraced her again, burying his head in the crook of her neck and whispering, “Do you know how scared I was yesterday? I was not afraid of what could happen to me but of what those people would do to you. The moment I thought about that, I couldn’t stand it anymore. Even if my presence didn’t rescue the two of you, it could at least make you feel a little safer.”
Jiang Ran thought of yesterday when the sudden appearance of Feng Jing had caused her heartbeat to steady. Although having him there did give her a greater sense of security, recalling how dangerous it had been, she was scared again. “Since you know that you couldn’t save us, why did you come? To die?!”
“——”
He was silent for a moment, rubbing his head against her neck as if in disapproval. His soft hair brushed against her delicate skin, the slightly itchy sensation causing her to almost shudder. “Yeah, I went in to die. If the police came, and they tried to take a hostage, I could actively try to be the one they targeted.”
This time, she was the one who didn’t know what to say.
“Are you stupid——”
“Just consider me a fool.” He didn’t want Jiang Ran and Feng Ya to face this sort of thing, no matter what. He hugged her, his voice lowering further until it sounded like a thick double bass. “If it happens again, I’ll do just the same.”
Jiang Ran’s heart quivered as if her heartstrings were plucked by his words. She hugged him back and said after a long time, “But I’m worried about you too. If anything happens to you, I’ll… I’ll just have to marry somebody else. Are you willing?”
Feng Jing: “——”
His wife’s way of comforting people could be described as rather special and ingenious.
His hand snuck into her nightgown and pinched her sensitive waist. “Who do you want to marry other than me?”
“Aiya, you are wicked, ha-ha-ha.”
Jiang Ran was very ticklish, and Feng Jing had discovered this weakness long ago after many intimate encounters.
“Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha okay! I was wrong, take your hand out!”
“No.”
“You are so irritating, ah. Go away, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.” Jiang Ran had curled up, laughing so hard her tears were trickling down. She tried desperately to get rid of the wicked man’s hand, but it was like a plaster, clinging tightly to her.
“I will let you go if you call me husband.”
Jiang Ran instantly went spineless and called out, “Husband, I’m wrong! Get off!”
Feng Ya, who just passed by: “——”
Ha ha. 🙂
The auntie came upstairs to ask Jiang Ran and Feng Jing to go down for breakfast and coincidentally met her, so she said, “Miss, the breakfast is ready, you can eat at any time.”
Feng Ya weakly replied, “No need, I’m already full.”
Auntie: “???”
Although Feng Ya skipped breakfast, she still went down for lunch. Today, Feng Ping had also come by, reporting some of the details of the previous night.
“Those who escaped last night were all arrested by the police,” he said.
Feng Jing was slightly surprised. “So fast?”
Although he also believed in the police’s ability, this was really a bit too fast.
“They were actually all caught last night,” his cousin supplied. He took the laptop out of his bag and opened one of the news channels for them. “This morning the police said that last night when escaping, they were attacked by a pack of dogs. As it made a huge commotion, the police found them very soon and caught them all. There wasn’t a single escapee.”
While listening, Feng Jing browsed through the news. As Feng Ping had said, the group hadn’t got very far – they hadn’t even made it to their car when they were attacked by the canines. The news even had a photograph. It was a big black dog smiling triumphantly at the camera.
Feng Jing: “——”
This black dog is really worthy of the title of the Dog Boss of Qingnan Lane.
”According to people in the know, this black dog had once been beaten by them before, so maybe it went there for revenge?” Jiang Ran sat beside Feng Jing, leaning against him as they watched the news.
Feng Jing raised his eyebrow and said, “Probably.”
“Then it really does know how to pick a convenient time. How smart!” Jiang Ran sighed.
Feng Jing laughed and said, “It’s very smart.” More than smart, in fact, it’s almost a spirit-level existence!
Speaking of spirits, he remembered that he still owed the yellow dog by the flower shop a piece of meat.
Feng Ping continued, “Wang Zhen isn’t getting away this time either. Feng Ya’s divorce case should be over soon.”
“That’s good.” She was afraid that it’d be difficult to divorce, wasting a year or so when it dragged on. “I’m planning to go overseas for a trip after the divorce goes through. You’ll give me a holiday, won’t you?”
Feng Ping gave a rare smile. “Sure, take your time playing. Just come back before Feng Jing’s and Jiang Ran’s wedding.”
