The Forty-Fourth Night (1)
Jiang Ran blushed at Feng Ya’s words and deliberately avoided her gaze for she was too embarrassed. Fortunately, Feng Jing and his mother came back at the right time, which lessened her embarrassment.
Mother Feng smiled at her and said, “The driver is waiting downstairs. You and Feng Jing go first. I’ll ask someone here to take care of Feng Ya.”
Jiang Ran thought for a while and nodded. “Well, I won’t disturb your rest.”
“When Feng Ya is better, find the time to come home for a meal.”
“O-ok.”
Feng Jing smiled and walked towards the bed to exchange a few words with Feng Ya before he left holding hands with Jiang Ran. As soon as they departed, Feng Ya couldn’t wait to ask her mother, “Mom, what do you think of Feng Jing’s girlfriend?”
Mother Feng glanced at her, walked towards the chair, and sat down. “Your brother has better judgement than you.”
Feng Ya: “—”
When he walked out of the ward, Feng Jing put on his mask and cap again and the two got into the car that had been waiting downstairs.
It was dark. Feng Jing asked the driver to send Jiang Ran to her house first. “Uncle Zhou, go to Watertown Apartments first.”
“OK.” Uncle Zhou replied and pulled out the car smoothly.
Feng Jing took off his mask and apologized to Jiang Ran. “I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to properly spend time with you when holidays are difficult to come by.”
Jiang Ran shook her head and said, “The most important thing is that Sister is fine.”
Feng Jing looked at her and teased. “It looks like it’s very easy for you to call her ‘Sister’.”
Jiang Ran’s ears instantly turned red. “So, in your opinion, what should I call her?”
Feng Jing held her hands and smiled. “It’s nice that you call her Sister.”
Jiang Ran tilted her head away and was quiet for a while. Then, suddenly thinking of something, she looked back at Feng Jing. “By the way, why did Sister say that she didn’t receive the things you bought for her?”
“—” Feng Jing faked a cough while covering the corners of his mouth. “Oh, those things— I was actually looking for an excuse to approach you, so I bought those things from you.”
“—” It took a while for Jiang Ran to digest his words. She then looked at the man and said, “You were interested in me so early on?”
“Haha.” Now it was Feng Jing’s turn to look outside the window.
“By the way, maybe I shouldn’t have asked this kind of question but Sister was crying very pitiably just now. What happened between her and your brother-in-law?”
At the mention of this brother-in-law of his, Feng Jing’s brow furrowed. “The two started having issues not long after they got married. That man has always treated her badly, but Sister never talked about the issues in detail. That Wang Zhen should be renamed as Wang Ba Dan (Bastard).”
“—” Jiang Ran froze for a moment but also agreed. “I don’t think he’s a good person. Especially when he took advantage of you being a public figure and can’t beat him personally. He has a face that’s asking to be smacked.”
“My mother was also discussing this issue with me just now. She told me not to get involved and that they will handle it.”
He loosened his necktie either due to the small space in the car or because of his anger towards that brother-in-law. “Wang Zhen was an ordinary clerk in the company. Now that he has hooked up with the Weis and started running his own company, Sister’s lost a lot of business. I’m guessing they must have quarreled over this issue today.”
“Why hasn’t Sister divorced him?”
“She originally thought that it was just a quarrel between married couples. Now it seems that Wang Zhen is just being deliberately cruel and has even schemed against my family’s business.”
“My sister hasn’t given up, she still has fantasies about that bastard and thinks that he will return to how he used to be. That was just him acting. It’s too naive to expect a man like that to change his mind.” Here, he stopped and looked at Jiang Ran with a totally different expression. “Of course, we cannot label all the men the same. There are still some good men in this world, such as me.”
Jiang Ran: “—”
She had gained a new understanding of Film Emperor Feng. Congratulations!
Feng Jing sent her home but didn’t go up to her apartment. “It’s too late today, rest early. I will go straight home because I have to film tomorrow morning.”
“Okay, be careful on the road.” Jiang Ran waved at him from the outside of the car and said uneasily, “You mustn’t fall into your brother-in-law’s trap and have any physical conflict with him. If you are too angry to bear it, I will help you and let Er Huang bite him.”
There was a lot of hostility towards public figures on the internet now. If Feng Jing had gotten into a physical conflict with him, the netizens would not care about the reason. They just knew that one way or another a public figure would hit someone and would scold him regardless of the truth.
Feng Jing looked at her eyes dyed by the starry night, embraced her, and kissed her on the lips. “Whatever you say.”
Jiang Ran’s face turned red at once because the driver uncle was still watching from the front!
Uncle Zhou was simply looking straight ahead as if he had no idea about what was going on behind him.
“I am going to go up now!” Lips pursed, Jiang Ran fled into the building.
Feng Jing looked at her darting back, a smile rising from the corners of his mouth. It was not until the lights on the seventh floor had turned on that he said to Uncle Zhou, “Let’s go.”
“OK.”
